Hi Burns

the Fibre optic cable mod is basically you have to extend one of the cables for it to reach out further than behind the head unit.

Basically the original & the new cable both have keys in the centre of them that need pushed out so you can remove the FO cables remove just one on each cable & extend with the black box olly asked us to order remembering to lock it down.

I have shown this in one of my photos. :

Take apart the head unit to leave just the required part, then

Roy,

Do you have a diagram of what wires you spliced into to get audio through the existing amplifier? I've realised that when I disassemble the head unit it won't remain in the state I need (EG Power On and Aux In selected) so will have to get a crossover type unit to split the 2 channel output from the DAC to a 6 channel output for the amplifier.

The 6 channels being

2 for the Sub
2 for L&R front speakers
2 for L&R rear speakers

For information I have the Harman Kardon Logic 7 system....

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

hi Guyzer

the connections on my drawing are the only connections you require to get the screen back up & running only I do not require the sound from the RR unit as my new one has SatNav etc I only wanted the screen back up instead of an ugly dark useless screen, although I have still to kill the power to it at midnight Rolling Eyes as I have no buttons to set the clock.

so the other wires in the middle of the connector block do your speakers etc !!
ignore the wire colours as it varies between cars !!!
just the connections matter !

Hope this helps ! Feel free to ask !

Ps the original SatNav still works but no sound ! Range Rover Sport 2009 Stormer edition.

Cheers Roy,

But how did you get the audio from your new HU to go through the amp? I presume you've got the HK Logic 7 system?

Cheers

I allready had the new head unit in before I knew I would loose the top screen so that is why I had to double up the wires so both units were powered up at the same time hence soldered on so not to mess with what was working... aftermarket wiring harness that includes steering wheel controls.

Thanks Lads Thumbs Up I think the problem I have though is that on the Logic 7 system the audio signal is sent to the amplifier via the fibre optic cable.

I have found plenty of adapters for LRs that state "NOT FOR LAND ROVERS WITH ON FACTORY FITTED AMPLIFIERS" which I have, so kind of stumped right now.

May need to test and see if the HU will function when stripped down and also whether it retains settings once disconnected and reconnected. If so then I can set it up to be powered and in AUX IN mode and carry on as planned. If not I'm not sure how to proceed as if it defaults to of the Aux In signal won't get through to the amp...

Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Guyzer

I never had any of these problems but not sure if that is because my HU was a single cd & you have a 6 cd unit ? Range Rover Sport 2009 Stormer edition.

Roy, yeah, I've got the 6 disc changer so I think so... Neutral if you look at the photo above I don't have any of the wires in the centre of the plug...

I'll try get a photo of the plug to show you.

Looks like I'll have to find a work around.

Cheers

I am a bit confused as the picture you show is the same plug I am talking about on mine but as per my drawing I never connected any thing to the wires in the middle which is your speakers etc !!

Roy, I'm confused also. But I'm guessing the other end of the cables you cut are connected to the audio out of your new stereo?

Cheers

I technically never cut any original cables as I got my connect 2 harness so basically plug out old HU connect new Harness (connect 2) plug into new HU then double the connections up that were originally in the RR HU to the connections drawing I have mentioned (excluding sound) to RR "original" HU so both work as normal but no sound output from the RR HU Big Cry

hope that helps Thumbs Up Range Rover Sport 2009 Stormer edition.
