I think it is a worldwide problem. It is odd as ZF make gearboxes for just about everyone. At least I know that I am not imagining things and just wonder why it took so long for them to actually "fess up". I do not mind the problem so much, as long as they recognise it and try and fix it.

Actually, Angel, that post about the upgrade may fit. My car was fine when I first had it but it just suddenly started making the noise. Now they are coming out of the factory (both RRS and D3) making that noise. Furthermore, more and more owners have been reporting this noise in the last 5 months.

I asked that - they cant - wonders why (explanantion was - that the cars doesnt fit to the manufactors standards anymore then and it would be illegal to drive on the road then - hey we live in Germany) L 405 2013 FFRR 5.0 SC -------------------------------------------------------------- WINNER - 2009 Best Avatar Award WINNER - 2009 Comedian Of The Year Award |

As you say, it is not confined to the RRS, my TDV6 Auto D3 makes this noise, a kind of chain scraping sound when you let your foot off the accelerator.(there is a chain in the transfer box I believe), and I hope that it is not this that is wearing something away every time it happens. I didn't notice this noise when I first had the car 10 mths ago, but after a couple of months it was there, and after software enhancement a couple of months ago, it is still there, probably more so than before. I am going to wait for a while now to see if they come up with the cause of this, and a proper fix hopefully for when it goes in for its first service in November, (but knowing L/R -they won't have sorted it by then). Please let us know if you hear of any headway L/R may make of this. Best Rgds. |

Hi Texstar. Yep that is exactly it. Chain or scraping noise when you take your foot off the accelerator. It is amusing for me because a bloke from ZF listened to the noise and said it was definately NOT the gearbox/transmission and the area rep said there was no noise etc. Now I am told that it is a big problem with all the rrs and D3 and they are coming out of the factory making that noise.

Thanks for the responses guys, It at least sounds like L/R have accepted that there is a problem, which is good, because I think all their area reps need their ears syringing.(I'll happily do it for them but I'm not a medical person). Lets hope ZF come up with the fix eh. Rgds. |

Oh dear, Angel, that does not sound hopeful. I was just thinking about my days in the military when I posted that. I worked in the "hole" and all our equipment was state of the art digital stuff. A load of steam driven equipment with dials turned up with a German officer. He forgot to bring the instructions with him but still managed to get it to work after 5 days of extremely hard work. He was there 16 hours a day trying to get it to work and eventually managed to send and receive stuff with it.
