Engine oil level check

I went to check the oil level this this morning on my 14 plate 5lt supercharged petrol when the Engine was cold and it was on the minimum level, I took the wife to work just down the road and when I got back I left it for about 20 minutes then checked the oil level again, this time it was one mark above minimum but telling the oil level was ok, it wasn’t saying add x amount of oil so what should I do here.
Thanks
Chris

Add a bit of oil.

Add however much it told you when cold ? Or bit less

Better to add in small amounts and check the next day than overfill.

Yes I have just put half a litre in, see how that goes, I have had to go my local Indy dealer to get the correct oil, no one else had any.

No, DON"T add any oil until the car tells you to!

IIRC, the oil level gauge displayed in the dash is the top 0.5L of the sump or so.

from the handbook:

"If the oil level is within the required operating range, the message Engine Oil Level OK will be displayed. Do not add any additional oil to the engine.

If the oil level is below the required operating range, a message advising you how much oil to add will be displayed (e.g. Add 0.5 Litre).

Add the recommended quantity of oil." --

I spoke to the garage this morning and he told me the oil level should be near the top of the oil gauge on the dash, not on the minimum mark, to be honest I never saw what it was saying to add this morning only that it was on the minimum mark, looking on line I see most people’s oil check on the dash is near the top.

The manual also says to check the level with a warm engine, not a cold engine. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Yes a warm engine seems to give a slightly higher oil reading
