No step by step guide, but now you know the parts which need to come off, could be straight forward.

If the tensioner is broken, there will be no compression on 3 cylinders I suspect if it's noisy enough to be heard while cranking, something fairly major has let go Have you made sure the cambelt and/or tensioner is in one piece? Ha she it had a new oil pump fitted? |

Thanks for all the replies. The guy that is currently having a look at it and heard the noise when turning it over first hand mentioned that I might be somewhat lucky. But like you say will need to get it stripped down to see first.

Compression tests aren't easy on these engines, and I would almost say wasted work at this stage.

You realise that if you've got bent valves that you're more than likely going to have to replace the pistons as well ?

I suspect a replacement head or 2 heads will be the easiest way to go.
