Run a 2.7 v6 myself so cannot comment specifically on the actual consumption figures you are reporting but a couple of points:

Do not agree esp on Turbo engines there are optimal temp ranges when it is a hot day for example a downpour will help turbo engines even more than normally aspirated motors you can even run more boost if required when the temps are optimal but not when to cold or to hot. Petrol engines will always be better when they run at the cooler end of the range but will give optimal power at only a short area of temp and this is normally a little warmer than a TD engine the lambda sensors and maf sensors will adjust the timing based on ambient and moisture variables and then adjust fuel ratio's to suit. 2014 5.0SC AB

The A6 that I had was quoted as 46 mpg Extra urban but in real life would do no more than 32 mpg. When I complained about it being advertised as that I was told I was "stupid and naive" to expect it to do the published figures!! I take it as read that most cars will only ever achieve the "combined" figure and that usually works out about right for a long run.

Taking the urban and combined official figures I do actually achieve these in my TDV8 and that's with me driving it pretty hard all the time. If I drive it carefully I can easily exceed them. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I recently did 1600 miles to Aviemore from South Wales with a blast around the Highlands and the combined average for the trip was over 30mpg...can't actually remember if it was 31mpg or 33mpg.

24000 miles done so far in 11 months and I have been staggered at the MPG I am getting. Averaging over 30mpg regularly and yesterday travelling back from Newbury to Nottingham I got 34mpg. Have verified my figures from the computer against the actual fill ups divided by miles and although less are within 5% .

Here's an idea.....all those worried about your MPG, switch your read out to the clock. Not being sarcastic or anything, but if you are worried about a 2 or 3 mpg difference per tank of fuel.....you have surely got the wrong car. My mate drove mine back from Ayr to my house....a 30 mile journey and averaged 31.5. I jump in & within 5 miles its down to mid 20's?? Am I worried - no. Am I concerned there is something wrong - no. As far as I can work out, a 3/4 miles per gallon difference per tank is the price of a packet of cigs per week or a bottle of wine. When you are all out at a night out....your having a great night...do you walk away from having one last bottle of beer for 4 quid due to the cost or do you participate to continue the laughs for the last half hour.?
