There is no way that you will ever see the manufactories recommended figures on your car. I am now on my 6th sport a 11 model year. The MPG has improved slightly. To an average of 24 over the 10 MY at 22.3

Which is exactly the same that Car Magazine achieved out of there 10 MY Fleet car.

Interestingly I have been running a Porsche 3.0D Cayenne For the past 3 months. This out performs the RRS in all areas. The handling is just like a 911, the MPG is around town useing the stop start function 33-35. On a 250 mile run due to the 8 speed box no doubt, just over 40 Mpg.

In summery, the Porsche is approx 40-50%% better on MPG. Has 95% of the performance of the 4.2sc RRS . Handles like a 911. The whole car feel as through it has been carved out of sold piece of rock. Its moved the SUV game on, over to you RR

RedFive - Is that the Cayenne Hybrid? Would be very interested in any other views you have on that - very disappointed with my TDV6 and am looking for options whilst used prices are high. Liked my previous TDV8 but TDV6 is just a poor engine for the car in my opinion

Thanks

Sorry no the Porshce is Diesel. Its better on MPG than the HB. Like you i came from a TDV8 to the V6. The problem is the V6 was never intended for the RRS . As in to pull around a 2.7 tonne SUV.All the torque curves are wrong .

Came very close to ordering the cayenne diesel, but at the last minute changed my mind and went with the autobiography. As much as i like Porsche have had seven of them, i can not get on with the way the cayenne looks. The fact that it will encourage me to drive it like a 911 is another put off. I love the way RRs drive encouraging a more steady progress while feeling special. This iam afraid the cayenne does not do.

IMHO, anyone who says a SUV handles, like, arguably the most iconic sports car around, isn't driving their sports car like they should.

Similarly, if you buy a RRS expecting it to go round corners like a GTR, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Compromise just means you get something thats **** in all departments.

Rolling with laughter

I have to agree with TDV8HST in that I luxuriate in the sloth-like progress of my TDV6. I don't feel like I need to drive it full tilt everywhere...(although I'd quite like it to stop a little better)

I have other toys that scratch that itch.

I have drove a Cayenne and used to own a 911 when I lived in the USA and there is no way that the Cayenne handles anywhere near the 911 - fact ! They are light years apart. I love my RRS and bought it because I don't want a 911 anymore, I want something that goes anywhere at anytime in any weather and looks better than anything else that pretends to do the same. The TDV6 is a good engine and is very unfairly slagged off, if I had the option of a 4.4tdv8 I wouldn't buy it, it would be overkill for me, that's why it's great that we are all different. 2016 MY16.5 HSE, 21" Rims, Waitamo Grey, Cirrus Leather, Extended Leather, Meridian sound

Steer well clear of the Cayenne Hybrid and stick to the Diesel, Porsche are having serious problems with the Hybrid System on 2011 Cayennes. Exclamation

See link below which shows the faults

The Porsche Cayenne does handle just like a 911 –Fact. The tt variant of the Cayenne is only seconds apart from the 997 4S around a circuit.-Fact

The RRS is 100% a year more on road tax- Fact
The RRS is at least 50% worse on mpg.- Fact
The RRS is significantly out performed by the PC in all areas. Fact

Best we don’t talk about build quality and Knocking noises or Flashing dashes. You seem to be employing some sort of reverse logic, as in that worse is better……….

All to there own, I say

If you go to www.fastestlaps.com and compare the 997 4S with a Cayenne TT Mk 3, you'll find a few stats.

But I have to say I've never met anyone who was considering the purchase of a sports car and bought a Cayenne instead....because they handle similarly.

I'm sure Rohrl would agree?

I bought the RRS because I wanted a good-looking 4WD with a bit of space. (The fact that there are already 4 Cayennes within 10 doors of me might have had something to do with it....)

Put a Cayenne up against a RRS on a Land Rover Experience Day and see how far they get respectively. The guys down at Honiton did a similar comparison with a X5 and it didn't even get out of the field!

That said, the ultimate vehicle of choice would be a 997 GT2 RS.

You like the Cayenne - I don't. I don't like the look and feel or I would of bought one. I don't go on a Porsche forum and slag off the Cayenne as those that buy it do it because they like it. I didn't join this forum to read people who drive another car slag off the one that I drive. I don't understand what you are trying to prove. Like other posters have said Porsche make wonderful cars and I once owned one, it was terrific and quick and beautifully built. My RRS is gorgeous, is so smooth, as quick as I need, goes anywhere, fits all my gear in and has never let me down (25000 miles ) and i counting and I feel is well built (well mine is). 10 times out of 10 I would pick the 911 over the Cayenne TT even if that particular cayenne is only 1 second slower round a lap. Why would anyone race 4x4 large off roaders round a track anyway as I bet that in a field or in mud that Cayenne would be rubbish. 2016 MY16.5 HSE, 21" Rims, Waitamo Grey, Cirrus Leather, Extended Leather, Meridian sound

redfive1 if you want to change to the cayenne after owning quite a few RRs good luck to you. No doubt that they are very good, the rest of us though will stay with the RR. If will all liked the same ,how boring it would be. Thumbs Up

2011 Cayenne v 2011 RRS.

I am currently looking to replace my Nissna Navara 4.0 V6 Dual Cab Petrol.

Three SUV's I am looking at are, RRS TDV6 Luxury , Cayenne Diesel and VW Touareg.

Interestingly there are very few people that are bitching about the Cayenne on the Cayenne forum, not so on the X5 or Merc site.

I have driven both and the Cayenne with standard suspension ride is similar to the RRS, power feels about the same, auto is smooth on both. The interior on the RRS is nice, the Cayenne is black is stunning. Better in reality than in the pic's. Tan does not look as good.

I do 30,000 kms on average per year and the Navara sucks fuel, 21mpg on trip, 15mph round town. Lucky I have a 150L tank fitted. if the real number for the RRS is 25-27Mpg then this make the decision to go to the Cayenne easier. I have been told by the dealer that average is 9.2 and 11.4 which works out to be 30mpg on a trip.

There are a number of posts on the Cayenne site that provide a comparison. Porsche quoted 6.1lph 46mpg, sounds ridiculous BUT not so. Many Cayenne Diesel owners are reporting 6.5-6.8lph. One guy regularly drives 1460Kms from Germany to their holiday house in Italy, Cayenne has a 100L tank and he does it without refueling. He has posted figures of 6.6LPH 43MPG. How can this be achieved, 8 speed auto 7 and 8 are overdrive, at 100kph the engine is doing 1500RPM. Interestingly the 2012 RRS is loosing 500kgs and is getting an 8 speed auto top two gears are overdrive. Sound Familiar.

If on average you are using 3LPH more and are doing 30000kms per year the that is over $1100 more fuel per year, however as the RRS is $22-25000 less than the Porsche, you would need to keep it for 20 years to make up the difference.

In the end ,as you can see I like both. My head says RRS as firstly it is 22-25K less, my heart says Cayenne, in black in looks brilliant, other colours not so.

No mention here of the Toe-rag but it is not release here so until we see it we will not comment. Last one my wife hatted the looked she said that it looked like a Hurst from the back. I would expect similar numbers as the running gear is the same.

So now you have real information. Some hate the shape of the Cayenne, some loath it, other love it. It is like the Lexus RX, I loved the shape and the car, other hated it. If you like boxy then you will not like the Cayenne, but boxy also means less efficient, so stop complaining about MPG.

Cheers
