Run a 2.7 v6 myself so cannot comment specifically on the actual consumption figures you are reporting but a couple of points:

1. My fuel consumption computer doesn't even know what day of the week it is, hopelessly inaccurate, try calculating it for yourself and see if it is any different (that said mine is actually over optimistic so this might make things worse rather than better).

2. Cold weather will make things worse if you are calculating yourself because some of the fuel will be used up by the fuel burning heater - I guess if you let the computer do the calculation they might have a clever way of allowing for this. I have certainly seen an increase in fuel consumption over the last few weeks.

You are correct using more fuel during warm up, but I am talking about once the Engine has reached normal opperating tempreture, I personally have noticed better performance and consumption on all of my vehicles, 2.7 Diesel, 3.9 V8 petrol and 3.2 V6 Petrol over a 50 mile round trip daily, this is how the intercooler's work by sqeezing cooler air into the cylinders?

Do not agree esp on Turbo engines there are optimal temp ranges when it is a hot day for example a downpour will help turbo engines even more than normally aspirated motors you can even run more boost if required when the temps are optimal but not when to cold or to hot. Petrol engines will always be better when they run at the cooler end of the range but will give optimal power at only a short area of temp and this is normally a little warmer than a TD engine the lambda sensors and maf sensors will adjust the timing based on ambient and moisture variables and then adjust fuel ratio's to suit. 2014 5.0SC AB

The A6 that I had was quoted as 46 mpg Extra urban but in real life would do no more than 32 mpg. When I complained about it being advertised as that I was told I was "stupid and naive" to expect it to do the published figures!! I take it as read that most cars will only ever achieve the "combined" figure and that usually works out about right for a long run.

Manufacturers can publish what they like in the brochures as long as it meets the EU regulations for achieving the figures. They work them out as follows:-

The urban economy is measured using the test cycle known as ECE-15, introduced by the EEC Directive 90/C81/01 in 1999. It simulates a 4,052 m (2.518 mile) urban trip at an average speed of 18.7 km/h (11.6 mph) and at a maximum speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). The extra-urban cycle or EUDC lasts 400 seconds (6 minutes 40 seconds) at an average speed 62.6 km/h (39 mph) and a top speed of 120 km/h (74.6 mph).

You tell me how that represents a real life driving situation??

Also heard stories of manufacturers allegedly fitting switches to make the engines run leaner when it comes to putting them through the above test cycle. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Taking the urban and combined official figures I do actually achieve these in my TDV8 and that's with me driving it pretty hard all the time. If I drive it carefully I can easily exceed them. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I recently did 1600 miles to Aviemore from South Wales with a blast around the Highlands and the combined average for the trip was over 30mpg...can't actually remember if it was 31mpg or 33mpg.

I must have cruised for 1200 of those miles at an indicated 80 using cruise, and 600 miles were with only me in the car and a few snowboards.

I was absolutely staggered.

Of course, I'm not sure if the actual trip computer is spitting out optimistic figures as I didn't work our total mileage and divide by actual consumption.

I'm well pleased with my vehicle in that respect as the baby 2.7 RRS in the line up. 00 Audi B5 S4 MRC550'ed

24000 miles done so far in 11 months and I have been staggered at the MPG I am getting. Averaging over 30mpg regularly and yesterday travelling back from Newbury to Nottingham I got 34mpg. Have verified my figures from the computer against the actual fill ups divided by miles and although less are within 5% .

So far so good. 2016 MY16.5 HSE, 21" Rims, Waitamo Grey, Cirrus Leather, Extended Leather, Meridian sound

I spoke to Land rover regarding this fuel consumption issue
and amazingly they have fuel specs for the vehicle when used over a 12 month period.

and for now month 'Jan' the V6 Diesel is stated as able to achieve an Average 27mpg

They state this is because of all the engine pre-heaters and other heating accessories that are being used.
(heated screens etc)

not exactly sure what figures there quote in the summer months when the air-con is whizzing its heart out.

Shame this nice 'fuel average chart' chart isn't printed within the brochure's

Hi all
I've read all of the above with interest.
Don't all shoot me down ,but
Has gears, revs and length of time in between gear changes got anything to do with fuel consumption?
In theory I assume that all tdv6 3.0 ecu's tell the gears at which point to change up or down?
Does this happen in practise with every car ?
Could the guys with low fuel consumption report the gear/rev change point to guys with high fuel consumption.
Or am I completely off track?
I Bow down To those who know.

Here's an idea.....all those worried about your MPG, switch your read out to the clock. Not being sarcastic or anything, but if you are worried about a 2 or 3 mpg difference per tank of fuel.....you have surely got the wrong car. My mate drove mine back from Ayr to my house....a 30 mile journey and averaged 31.5. I jump in & within 5 miles its down to mid 20's?? Am I worried - no. Am I concerned there is something wrong - no. As far as I can work out, a 3/4 miles per gallon difference per tank is the price of a packet of cigs per week or a bottle of wine. When you are all out at a night out....your having a great night...do you walk away from having one last bottle of beer for 4 quid due to the cost or do you participate to continue the laughs for the last half hour.?

Ready for being slaughtered, but come on...let's be realistic. Mid teens there is more than likely a problem, low twenties...you are enjoying your wheels, high twenties....you are to be admired.

CDC Everybody is clinging on to their sanity….Some just hide it better than others….
