Here's an idea.....all those worried about your MPG, switch your read out to the clock. Not being sarcastic or anything, but if you are worried about a 2 or 3 mpg difference per tank of fuel.....you have surely got the wrong car. My mate drove mine back from Ayr to my house....a 30 mile journey and averaged 31.5. I jump in & within 5 miles its down to mid 20's?? Am I worried - no. Am I concerned there is something wrong - no. As far as I can work out, a 3/4 miles per gallon difference per tank is the price of a packet of cigs per week or a bottle of wine. When you are all out at a night out....your having a great night...do you walk away from having one last bottle of beer for 4 quid due to the cost or do you participate to continue the laughs for the last half hour.?

Ready for being slaughtered, but come on...let's be realistic. Mid teens there is more than likely a problem, low twenties...you are enjoying your wheels, high twenties....you are to be admired.

sorry guys,

your completely missing the point...
my last car was 5litre v8 merc, you can imagine how many visits to the filling station that had.
never lost sleep once, simply because it was performing as the book said.

the 3.0l V6 in the RRS is way off what Land rover quote, to me that is misleading facts
else there is an fault with the vehicle.

This post and i started it has nothing to do with the price of fuel and driving whilst staring at the fuel computer.

When i purchase anything if it doen't perform as expected then i hit the manufacturer hard.

there is no where in this world where you can gather knowledge better than dedicated user forums.
you need that evidence when informing LR, else they spill out the Bul****t

when i spoke to the service dept last week,
they actually tried to tell me the fuel consumption was due to the price of fuel
and secondly that the pre-heating sequence to start the engine uses diesel.
ummm, now i thought that power came from the battery.

if your happy to purchase a Bugatti Veyron that only pumps out 700hp instead of a 1000hp then
this post isnty for you. this is all about test specs and what we paid for.....

I was going to reply saying the sme thing. The product needs to do what the product says it should do. Good point well made. When i challenged LR on this they told me that MPG will improve after the first service. It hasn't. Still runnung at 26mpg with a steady drive arfter 11,000 miles. Let me know how you get on with LR.

My TDV8 has done 13000 since new last March and the av mpg (tank to tank fill ups) is 18.7 which is no where near LR's average of 23mpg!!! Big Cry Big Cry and no its not driving like a maniac either...I see and read so many posts here declaring averages of 25-30mpg and wonder how the hell they do it and can only assume they must be using the optimistic readings from the cars trip computer or are benefiting from a seriously good tail wind!!! Laughing ..Anyway..my previous car was the V10 Audi S8 and over 30000 high performance miles later averaged 19.5mpg which was exactly as per Audi's own figures...I just can't understand why LR ( and they are not alone!!) are allowed to claim such good mpg figures as averages when in reality most owners get no where near them in day to day driving be that a V6 or a V8 Evil or Very Mad.....Having said all that I do love that burble you get from the TDV8 engine Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I'm coming back on my gears/rev theory.
I personally don't give a Censored T how many mpg my tdv8's doing coz I love to drive it Thumbs Up
However, that said I'm interested in this debate . I've noticed the following:-
My 57tdv8 av 25.5 but tank to tank it did 27 mixed traveling. It's performance was spot on. It's mass power pull the car along effortlessly changing gears at much lower revs than my now 59 plate. All it does in comparison is rev it Censored Olox off, getting nowhere fast.
It only does an av 19 mpg. Now, same driver two very different cars? We have our own fuel tanks with refueling from the same supplier.

To all of the boffins--- WHY THE DIFFERENCE? Bow down

I never look at the mileage clock, way off. My TDV8 with BAS.

Using fuel vs km, over bit more than 2 years and 34000 Km I get an average of 22.7 MPG

If long run on the highway it goes at around 28 MPG

Around town, and few hills around here I get about 20 MPG

I believe I never had a car doing what the manufacturer says. '08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil

My mate and I have a 3 litre V6 and a V8.

He was convinced his was going to be the all singing and dancing new boy on the block with his Disco4.

WRONG Shocked

Mine as in the TDV8 is better by a good 4mpg. He potters around the farm in his or tows a big trailer and I walk to work and only use mine for journeys. His does low 20's mine 25.6mpg. If I hook mine up to his trailer and load it's still better Very Happy

The key to MPG on the diesels is distance ie "well warmed". You need to do long journeys to make a diesel efficient. But the TDV8 will tow a load at less consumption than the V6 IMHO.

If you are doing short school runs.

Buy a petrol ( preferance would be a 5 litre super charged Whistle) . Long journeys the TD's get warm and are more efficient Thumbs Up .

If you are that bothered by fuel consumption buy a bmw 3ltr tdi or Merc that does loads of MPG but cant get off a wet drive on a good day Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter  SDV8 vogue SE.

In this part of the world, you need to know your mpg figures are accurate - and it's not about cost, it's about range. Some tracks are up to 1000km between fuel stops! Hence few petrol vehicles in outback Australia.

If I was worried about fuel consumption I’d be looking at the Eovoke.

But it’s the Sport for me. 2.7 HSE soon to be replaced by a 3.0 HSE
I fear Land Rover are fitting Continentals, the Goodyears fitted to my 2.7, prior to the Continentals now fitted (couldn’t get Goodyears) were 2 – 4 mpg better at a regular 30mpg ish.

Guess I’ll be enjoying the extra power, and of course paying less (rip off GB) road tax.
