Fuel consumption 3 litre V6 diesel (very poor new vehicle)

I took delivery of a new V6 3.0 Diesel back in Dec 2010 after months of waiting.
apparently an engine production line issue ???

Anyway the Average fuel consumption as shown by the computer is way off.
we've put about 800 miles on the vehicle now and it's never given better then 26mpg.

The specification give the range between 25-35 mpg

All our previous vehicles have hit the top end of their respective mpg figures
and our driving style hasn't changed. So I'm not so impressed with at least what the computer is
showing at present.

This is my first diesel so i have no idea whether these engines run rich until run in etc.

anyone out there experiencing similar poor consumption figures ?

It might have something to do with the extreme cold december we've just had, i'm sure it will improve when it gets abit warmer.

Similar to what peeps D3side are reporting for the last year or so with 3.0l D4s. Unfortunately nowt to do with being cold, they are plain thirsty.

I can confirm that my 2010 3 litre averages between 26 & 27 mpg. TBH I'm not surprised or concerned, the RRS is nearly 3 tonnes of car! I don't think I've ever owned a car (Land Rover or any other) that actually gets the fuel
consumption quoted in the documentation... C'est La Vie Rolling Eyes 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

24mpg since September on my 3.0L ! My previous MY10 TDV8 averaged about 22/23 over the previous 12 months from memory!

A lot of 'paper stats' about the 3.0L were a bit suspect in my view - especially the torque figure vs. the V8. No way does the V6 'only' have 9% less torque than the V8 in the mid 1500 - 2500 RPM range!

I am continually disappointed by the 3.0L V6 - but perhaps that is because I had the V8 first until it died and was replaced by LR for an inferior car!

I'll monitor the feedback from this post a while longer before i approach Land Rover,
There's no way they can just dream up fuel specs to suit themselves.

I've owned some very heavy hefty merc cars and they perform exactly as said in the book.
same goes for my other 200 HP plus motors.

It would appear thus far from the responses that no one is achieving what the sales pitch and literature states.
i'm fairly sure this is against the code of conduct etc etc .....

As for cold weather in reality that should improve consumption.
any vehicle may take that extra mile to warm up, but in a cold climate there is more oxygen in the air
so in theory a vehicle will be more effecient in the winter and less so in the summer.
I guess we'd need a boffin head to add some science within this area.

I would say that my Vogue definitely has worse consumption on short journeys when the weather is very cold at least 1,2 mpg less.

If you are using supermarket fuels all the time then try changing over to the "regular" (as opposed to "Ulitmate" or "V-Power" diesel) from one of the oil majors and run it for a couple of months on branded fuels. Changing from solely using Sainsbury's best to Shell regular diesel saw my TDv8 consumption improve by 2-3mpg over a 4 month/ 5000 miles period and since then I have never put a drop of supermarket fuel into the tank. The price difference per litre of branded over supermarket diesel is also very small these days too - 1p per litre at the most. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

BLH - Let us know how you get on with LR. I agree that its unacceptable for LR to post figures that it seems no one is capabile of achieving.

Cold air is more condensed, giving the Engine (Petrol and Diesel) more oxygen thereby creating more power per fuel added, the result is both increased performance and Economy!

when an engine is cold esp Diesel they use far more fuel than a petrol

both out TDV8's do 2-3 less to the gallon when its very cold esp on short journey stuff , so does our Msport BMW 3 diesel and as for the wifes 3.0 V6 D4 Diesel hmm well lets just say it just about match's the TDV8 Sad 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC
