United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

I have to clarify a couple of things here, sorry the car must be 3 years old now (i have had it on a private plate from when i brought it); and secondly, I purchased privately, although the vehicle was supplied originally by Stratstone Doncaster.

I have had a chat with Brian at Gordon Lamb just now - really helpful chap; and he is going to try and help out all he can. First stop is another diagnostic! I will be writing to LR about this issue also. I will report back when I know something!
Regards.

Could have read it via the notification email and not looked at the inbox, VA Very Happy

I too am surprised at LR's attitude here. Maybe it's the in-between private sale that's broken the chain, so to speak. Not sure why that would really be though... especially, if the service record is fully LR maintained Confused

Bevlawyer, you need to keep plugging away at this. £1200 is no small beer to just put down to one of those things. You seem to have spoken to other dealers who have a more reasonable approach to it, if you could confirm with them that one of these could do the work under warranty, then you could always pull out of your current dealer and move the car to them?

I have a response, unfortunately it appears LR will not help. Anyone wanting to buy my vehicle (I will of course have the turbo repaired, although there has been no fault showing since I took it in); at a sensible price please pm me, I'm afraid this will be my last LR. I intend to start posting here however as you guys at least seem a good bunch! Cheers for the help.

(letter)
Thank you for your email received by Mr Phil Popham yesterday. Mr Popham has read your correspondence and asked me to reply to you on his behalf.

I am sorry that you had cause to contact Mr Popham with a concern regarding the amount of goodwill contribution that was offered by Hunters Derby towards a turbo repair on your vehicle. Please accept my apologies for the obvious annoyance caused.

Unfortunately, Land Rover cannot pre-empt issues which may occur on our vehicles. We therefore provide a three-year manufacturer's warranty and also offer customers the opportunity to purchase warranty extensions in order to alleviate the risk of future expenditure. Therefore, when making out of warranty goodwill gestures, we have to be mindful of owners that have taken the option of extending their warranty. Also, as explained to you by Mr Adam Robinson in our Customer Relationship Centre, loyalty to us and our dealer franchised network is another factor that is taken into consideration.

On reviewing your case and having discussed the matter with Mr Martin Hines, Service Manager at Hunters Derby and Mr Adam Robinson, I have to respectfully advise that on this occasion the gesture of 25% towards the repair costs cannot be increased.

I trust that you can understand our position in this matter and thank you again for making Mr Popham aware of your situation.

(end)

PS I will be in the market for a 997c2, rs4 or V8M3 if anyone has a px! thanks

Quite interesting to contrast LR's response compared with MB who replaced 2 doors,a front wing and spring hanger on my E320cdi at 5 years and 180,000 miles FOC.
Surely there is a claim here on fit for purpose despite LR's 3 year limitation,I'd consider a solicitors letter if Brian in Chesterfield can't sort you out.
I had a beer with my local's owner last night and hes on his 3rd gearbox on his FF and he won't be buying another as they've told him he accelerates too hard which is causing the problem, funnily his much older Jeep is fine. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Over in the techy section bananenschale has also reported a turbo blown in Germany, it will be interesting to see how his German dealer sorts it out and compare his treatment with yours, although his car is, I think, younger and still in warranty. Yes, my partner and in law is a lawyer; and they suggested the same. I must say I have enough legal issues at the moment with non payment of client accounts(!), however I will be speaking with someone about this (not really their area) as I feel LR should really act more responsibly and at least acknowledge that this simply should not happen on a car of mines age and mileage.

If anyone has any comments? Should I not pursue this any further?

Whilst living in thailand there was a case with a toyota owner (toyota hard to beleive). Just out of warranty 1 week engine blew and had lots of problems in warranty.

He took to dealers yard and beat it Basil Fawlty style but with a sledge hammer, National coverage in the media and Toyota did replace vechicle with another.

Extreme buit feel that is extreme is your only hope now.

Bev,

I suggest you get the car repaired using an independent LR dealer and using original LR parts and then sue LR in your local County Court for the cost of the repair.

That way you will get your car repaired and have a very good chance of recovering the cost.....it also likely that LR will settle before the Court hearing....

I took this approach with VW when I had a a manifold sensor that kept failing and they wouldnt pay for the repair; 80 quid sensor and 3 hours to fit = £500....needless to say after the threat of Court Action VW paid up!!!
