HUNTERS reported TURBO GONE - WILL LR HONOUR WARRANTY?

Hi to everyone, this is my first post and I'm afraid it's to ask about a problem! (sorry).

Had my RRS 2.7 report an engine failure and go into limp (happened in hot weather). I took it into my dealer today and they reported a turbo failure. They have quoted me £1500.00 to replace the unit. My warranty expired 2 weeks ago, and I was told by a member of the dealers team (who shall remain nameless!) that in his experience LR would normally step in and 'help' the customer with the costs?

I have to say that this seems only fair and I know that a friend of mine had a similar experience where peugeot paid 90% of a £1000.00 bill in similar circumstances (that was a clutch however).

I wondered if anyone has experience of how Land Rover deal with such issues? My car is with Hunters in Derby. Up to now I have had great service there I have to say; I am just a little concerned about this potentially big bill!

Anyway, nice to meet you all, sorry in advance it's an 'issue'. On a brighter note I can say that my RRS has been fantastic in every regard prior to this incident (In case anyone put off reading this!)

thanks

Robert

My experience is that LR will probably cover this - they did with something similar for me. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Hello Rob
Welcome to the forum.

has the fault happened more than 2 weeks ago?

The fault code history will (should) store time and date IIRC of fault conditions ( and mileage).

If fault time or miles is more than 2 weeks ago you should have a stronger case.

Have the dealer contacted LR on your behalf to see if they might help you with the cost?

If not , buy a turbo yourself , get the car in to a private garage like shardlow landrover near you and get the job done a lot cheaper than the stealers.

ISTR there was something weritten in one of the LR mags about buying a turbo from Peugeot or citreon dealers (same engine) and paying less than LR.

Good luck

Hi there 'Very annoyed' (I wont ask!), thanks for the feedback that's interesting to know. Fingers crossed! I'll keep you posted.

As I said they seem good guys; one of the reasons I switched brands to be honest; although I have had LR in the past.

thanks

Thanks Mart, the guys at Hunters already suggested they will contact LR for me and ask. If they decide not to help out I will follow your advice about trying other avenues. I should know in the morning if my missus is going to kill me or not...

Turbo failure on the TDV6 is not uncommon on the RRS/D3 - also do a search on the sister site DISCO3.CO.UK for more information if you wish Smile Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I'd be surprised if LR don't honour this failure, given it's major and given it's so near the end of the warranty. They certainly have done before.

Well thats encouraging news schmoogle, I must admit I was surprised as Im a fairly steady driver and the vehicle has only covered 45k. I wouldnt imagine a diesel turbo spins up that hard! On my other car, a 996 turbo (lots of miles!) you would have maybe expected it!

Anyway, I'll find out later this morning if Hunters (LR) can help out. It's doubly annoying because Im about to sell the vehicle (im actually looking at a HST) and have someone from Chesterfield coming down to look at the weekend. The fault cleared off the screen last week but now I know its turbo failure I couldnt sell it on in the knowledge; still he'll be getting a cracking car - with a nice shiny turbo!

thanks, robert

Yep sure have, one month out of warranty and warranty claim rejected......despite having reported the issue 6 times during warranty and not fixed. RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Well on Hunters advice I put a letter into LR customer services myself, and spoke to a nice chap who emailed me back tonight to acknowledge receipt of my email and tell me he will be contacting Hunters tomorrow to investigate further. So fingers crossed...

I forgot to mention that I have only recently had a main service at Hunters, although I am unsure if the Turbo issue would have cropped up at that point. I guess my main concern is that I feel that really a turbo maybe should not fail on a car like a RRS of such age and mileage? I have to assume it's probably a 'one off' as the car hasn't really missed a beat since I purchased it?

Anyway, watch this space; I have put my case forward to LR and now I am in their hands. I'm hopeful something can be arranged that is acceptable to me and LR! We'll have to see, I'll report tomorrow!

Cheers

Regardless of the warranty I think you could 'have' LR in the small claims court for selling a car which is 'not fit for the purpose' given the relatively low mileage and service history....

I reckon they'll pay...keep us posted Shocked
