Thanks Bex, whilst an entirely feasible avenue of redress I think we're not at that stage just yet! I am a big believer in being fair with people; up to LR have been very professional and Ive had good service. I think if we can resolve in what could be considered a 'reasonable' fashion; im happy with that!

I do agree with your point about 'not fit for purpose'; but lets see what they come back with. Hopefully something can be sorted and this issue can be put down to a 'blip'! I'm still waiting to hear back, although in the meantime my brother in law has done some hunting round and feels that the £1500 Hunters are asking is fairly expensive compared to non main dealer companies. This is only to be expected however, and I am keen to use the main dealer for peace of mind.

cheers all

The plot appears to thicken.

LR have gotten back to me and said that they would help to the tune of 25% goodwill. This still leaves me facing a bill of some £1100 odd. I asked LR to re-assess on the basis of the circumstances i.e:

1. The car is only 2 years old with c45k miles
2. It has full main dealer service record
3. It is only a couple of weeks out of warranty
4. Hunters have JUST done a main service
5. I am looking at a HST (the car has been on pistonheads and I have a very interested potential buyer)

They did revisit and came back to me this afternoon to say they would have helped more but the car was not supplied by and official dealer.

As I was the second owner, this rang alarm bells - was my RRS a 'grey'? A quick call to Hunters and Richard told me that in fact the car had been supplied by Stratstone LR Doncaster... He then contacted LR (again) and they said it was because I purchased second hand?

Anyway on Bigmarts advice I contacted a very helpful chap called Rob @ Shardlow LR. I have to say he seemed as outraged as me at LR's decision! He said that they usually allow 3 MONTHS grace on warranty claims.

He also said that the turbo simply shouldnt fail like this (a sentiment also shared by Hunters who commented he had only ever seen 2 on the diesel sport).

What would you guys do? Should I pay the £1259.82 (Hunters just called back - that is actually the figure WITH the 25% off!!!), protest at LR? Go somewhere else? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Doesn't that mean that your car is still in warranty? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

Firstly would get independant quote, surley by now some secondhand turbos must be kicking around which would work out a lot cheaper.

I am surprised the dealer asked you to contact Landrover yourself, in my experience a dealer taking up the issue rather than the individual always counts for a lot more.

Have just had a 4 week out of warranty issue with Suzuki, local dealer sorted it out and Suzuki paid the bill, though a smaller bill of £450 but that was 100 percent

There are TDV6's that have done 270k on original turbo etc, personally I think it unacceptable to fail at such an early age and low mileage. Surely at 2yrs old, a UK spec / UK supplied car ,should still be under manufacturers full, unlimited mileage, 3 yr warranty whether second hand or not. If it came from Stratstone it probably was chipped Shocked

You have 3 choices:

i) To accept LR's measly 25% offer but bear in mind that the dealer will be charging you full price for the turbo ( yet they buy it discounted from LR) and that you'll pay for 75% of the labour charge at full dealer rate whereas LR will be paying a warranty rate (usually 40% less that you and I pay to the garage)....

Or

ii) Get the car independently repaired by an independent LR agent and ask LR to give you the same 25% contribution based on fitting a brand new turbo

Or

iii) Repair the car yourself with an independent agent and sue the arse off LR and/or the dealer for supplying a car that was not fit for the purpose! (This option will still be cheaper than LR's 'offer' and still allow you to commence court proceedings for less than the total cost of LR's offer!!!

I would do what VA said. When I had problems with my first D3 I wrote to Geoff Polites (now deceased) he was the CEO of Jag & LR it was a much different experience and result to dealing with LRCS. Be reasoned, polite and firm in how you want it resolved - good luck. Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

I am very very surprised LR hasn't honoured this repair as previously they have with similar claims. I personally had stuff covered when my old RRS was out of the 3 year warranty. Do you think your service centre is pushing hard enough? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
