Well my car is a 2012 spec face lift and the same process worked as what was used in 2010 models.

Yeah, but it's a TDV6 vs TDV8 thing.
Anyway. The cluster has arrived:




Removed the rear cover, unplugged four connectors (lift up the edges of a connector on the PCB, remove the ribbon) to the LCD screen and a small connector to the fan. Removed 5 screws holding the PCB to the display frame.
Identified the EPROM chip:



I got a successful read on 3rd try, even my superexpensive Pomona SOIC clip had trouble with sticking to all 8 pins properly:

That is the first hurdle successfully jumped

So, finally got some time and finished the install. Possibly the first one in a 2010 TDV8.



1. Use the "instrument cluster removal and installation" section from the Workshop Manual.
2. The programming is really easy. Here is my gratitude towards @AndyCHO, great help, mate.
3. Old cluster: just remove the plastic backside and the chip is clearly in view. Read it and double check the contents. If you can see the VIN at the beginning and "AH22-..." string at the end of your dump, it is OK. Save the file, should be 2048 bytes.
4. New cluster: as mentioned in my post above, you need to dismantle the digital cluster completely, since the EEPROM chip in question is on the reverse side of the motherboard. Read the contents and save to a separate file. Should be 2048 bytes. Now duplicate this file so you have a source file from analogue cluster, a source file from digital cluster and a work file that is the copy of the digital source.
5. Combine the both - work on your copy of digital cluster file:
- The VIN is located at position 0A8: copy 17 bytes of the VIN from old cluster file to new cluster file.
- Dash type is located at position 0C0: copy 16 bytes*
- Mileage is located at position 784: copy 16 bytes*
- Immobiliser is located at position 7E8: copy 31 bytes (right to the end of file)*
6. Flash the file to the new cluster. Put it together, remember to fit all the ribbon cables and the speaker plug you had to disconnect in order to dismantle it.
7. Attach the cluster connector to the new cluster and turn the ignition on. Does it work? It should. Turn ignition off, remove the connector.
8. Trim the cluster - just dremel the bottom and side mounts off.
9. Trim the dash - the part where your new cluster speaker will go. Approx 1 cm must be trimmed, maybe more.
10. Trim the cluster surround "boomerang" piece of plastic: you will want to remove a lot from the inside part (the part that touches the transparent display protector). Just make sure you leave the clips intact and treat them as a guideline of how much to trim.
11. Fit the cluster into the dash. You will cry and swear. You will despair. It does not go through the hole provided. Don't scratch the edge of your leather dash trim that meets the "boomerang" piece. Oh, you will.
12. Make sure you don't have the display too low, make it go as high as possible to be able to read the bottom line of the cluster (range, mileage, consumption etc)
13. Fit the dash back together.
14. Use SDD (engineering mode) or GAP IID (full CCF access) to change your display mode. My cluster was from a 4.4 SDV8, it shows "diesel" on the fuel gauge right away, however the revs were up to 8000. It is reported that all clusters do it on install. Find "Scale 2" in the CCF if you have a Diesel engine, that will take care of the scale, which will now be 6000 rpm with 4000 rpm redline (BTW "Gauge Skin 2" will show "Supercharged" in the cluster, however I was not able to combine a 6000 rpm rev counter with a "Supercharged" text, which is perfectly logical and proves Solihull can indeed code something properly).
15. Enjoy. This cluster looks brilliant**.

* - I am not sure which is which, but copying from old to new did the job.
** - Everything works (ACC, Forward Safety, cruise control, offroad display) but one thing: if your car is equipped with Dynamic Mode, turning the Terrain Response dial to this mode will not be recognized by the cluster. The L322 didn't have this mode, therefore the cluster shows nothing. However, the actual mode setting works (you can see it in the 4x4 info screen on the satnav display), it is just not recognized by the L322 cluster. Regards etc.,

Yes, that's the plan, hopefully. I'll get the part to finish the seat on Thursday and then start on the dash. Then after that it's off to the specialists for a gearbox flush and then we're off for two weeks holiday, so no playing with cars until after that.

Then I must get on with finishing the restoration of my Triumph Stag.
