Had the Digital TV tuner fitted today - took 2 hrs - £70 fitting - and a very good price on the unit - was £200 - got it for £136. It's connected via my GVIF unit & lives behind the glove box - it has a USB port so can pause & record TV & play back other media. Only things I'm not impressed with & they are very - very minor - the 2 antennas are on the front screen ( apparently factory fitted privacy glass restricts signal ) & the icons on the tv screen are a little outdated apart from that - absolutely spot on Very Happy Very Happy .pics to follow. i take it that the digital tv tuner is way better than the standard pile of poop tv tuner, Peachy? Do you get all freeview channels with it, and some more ?
cheers ! Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

I haven't really had a good play yet - seems a decent bit of kit - I will add a few videos on this thread over the next few days - it picks up the digital radio but still early days - they had an Alpine tuner which was £500 reduced to £224 but the aerials pushed it back over £300 without installation - I rarely spend more than an hour in the RRS at any one time so more of a toy than a practical piece of kit - I can always upgrade if its something I find worthwhile. This is what i think i know Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter The tuner needs an interface to make the picture - this is the GVIF unit - the tuner is connected to the GVIF with the normal red - white & yellow aux connectors then is hard wired for the power & antennas installed as discreetly as possible on the top corners of the windscreen. The tuner is TV in motion Wink
Can anyone else fill in the technical gaps ? Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

A friend of mine previously had the antennas fitted to the back quarters and the picture was very clear on the tuner he purchased but no longer has the car to advise about the tv in motion.

Apparently there is a way of bypassing the visual in motion through the tuner above a certain speed.

With Interest

Gents,

I have been watching this thread with interest. I have a 2010 HSE and would like to have video in motion on long trips from Manchester to Plymouth.
Not being an electronics savvy person, would it be possible list the kit required and the suppliers along with prices please.

Regards

Tony

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Alaska White

You could go into Diagnostics mode and video input test, this will enable you to have the TV on while the car is moving.
The down side is you need to select the channel you want to watch before going into that mode.
Or the reverse camera active if you are towing something and want to keep an eye on it.
Not perfect but does work without having the extra cost of more hardware Thumbs Up 2010 Alaska white 3.6TDi v8, heated steering wheel, Ipod connection, Aribica extended leather, Digital TV, voice activation, privacy glass, Dynamic pack

Retro fit of Freeview

Hi Rab,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I don't wish to appear ungratefull in any way but I'm lead to believe that there is not a TV tuner fitted to my RRS.
I was asking how to go about it and what bits would I need to fit to the car to allow me to receive TV.
I understand I need a GVIF from HIDS4U, would I be correct in thinking that I would then plug in the TV receiver into the GVIF, along with a DVD player if I so wished. The vehicle already has a factory fitted rear view camera that selects automatically no matter what screen I'm on.

I suppose I'm asking in numpties terms what I need to buy to make it happen?

Thanks again for your imput it's greatly appreciated.

Regards

Tony

Tony, the 2010 rrs and D4 gvif is a lot more involved to install. You have to take the touchscreen out and remove the sceptres from the rest of the unit. Then put a small pcb in connected with flexible ribbon. I've installed a couple of these, but they're not for the faint hearted.....

The pre 2010 ones are much simpler to do. Thumbs Up

But once installed, yes you can connect iPod/DVD/tv/Playstation/blue ray/media player etc etc etc. anything with an av output really. The gvif has three av inputs plus reverse camera input which you won't need to use. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible
