United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue

I haven't screamed until today Whistle
But lost plot this evening with yet another call to exec office who as usual, promise you one thing then move the post, pitch and field to another county.
For the first time I hung up the phone and thought Censored it, and lifted the phone again and had a long conversation with my solicitor to find out exactly what my legal position is. LR have boxed clever here and allowed my consumer rights to time out while they have been fannying about. But..... I have a get out clause Thumbs Up
Still waiting for LR to make a decision about how they are going to proceed, but I fear this may take some time no matter how much I push and kick. They have one speed, slow!
Nearly four weeks since car returned, inspected by engineer and still no direction as what to do. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Having been where you are just last year I know how frustrating this is - LR have lost the plot Banging Head

My previous LR's weren't perfect but I loved them - they had niggles but were dealt with quickly and efficiently under warranty - this is no longer the case - dealers appear clueless and LR wriggle whenever a problem occurs or take forever to deal with it Evil or Very Mad

Been to look at a New RRS Black Edition today because the rivals don't turn my head and I want a car built in UK - just waiting for figures but still not sure if I will take the risk this time Sad

I should be committed Embarassed

Really hope you get this sorted before you crack under the pressure Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Muddy, why do you want a car that has been built in the UK Question Confused

Simon, i sense you are reaching the end of your teather now with this, and i'm very surprised its taken so long Shocked i would storm into the service dept with the log book and spare set of keys and a letter with a demand of what the vehicle was worth when it entered their workshop with engine failure the first time and throw them at the service manager and tell him you want a cheque for the value of your vehicle or you are not moving from the service dept untill you get a cheque or funds transfered into your bank account. Ideally you could do with a well known motoring magazine reporter to go into the dealership with you once you have filled him in on the story. Except nothing less now, you have been more than patient thoughout this fiasco. Vehicle not fit for purpose. Whistle

Ady - since buying my first Lr in 2000, seeing the decimation of British manufacturing and the growth of cheap often inferior imports I made a conscientious decision to buy uk built cars and hopefully help keep British jobs. I am all for buy British if possible especially in the supermarket Thumbs Up

Admittedly recent experience is making me question the logic of this but I live in hope Embarassed

I know Japanese and German built is supposed to be best but I had a bad experience with a landcruiser and saw a nightmare vw case through a neighbour. Also they build bland cars IMHO Yawn

Up to tata taking over I was very happy but maybe that's just a coincidence Whistle Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Sadly true - but it's starting to catch on - the French have been doing it for years Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

You are one of the ones who has every reason to scream! Sad

If you were dealing with local government and had such a run around you'd have several options to get someone higher up/externally to kick butt. But sadly the private sector is lucky enough (for them) not to have such balances. So all you can do is vote with your wallet. Eventually. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Previous governments were guilty of buying elsewhere (or at least saying they were going to) which killed the aircraft industry in the UK. I fully believe they did so under extreme pressure from the USA who had a huge financial hold on us thanks to lend/lease. Germany was rebuilt after WW2 in order to prevent the rise of communism etc. but the UK was left penniless by the conflict.

The Govt and BOAC (sometimes known as the "Boeing Only Air Club" thanks to their continually buying Boeing aircraft even though they'd requested UK companies to design and deliver aircraft for them - the VC10 being a nice example. Designed specifically for BOAC's "hot and high" routes and then hardly used) were terrible exponents of shafting UK industry. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Simon, as said, you've been a Saint up until now, so your frustration is more than justifiable and more than overdue IMHO.

I really would contact a motoring magazine now and give them the full story, from the start to where you are today.
JLR are making a big song and dance at the moment and spending £m's on advertising the latest RRS trying to get people to part with their cash, so I think it's only fair that there should be some balancing press as to the shocking way they treat people that have already spent £50-70k with them already.

It really is time to pull out the big guns and let them have both barrels Twisted Evil

Believe me I'm not usually one to advise such drastic action, but in your case I think this is 110% reasonable. As Ady says, you have a car that is not fit for purpose.....so what are THEY going to do about it. Give them a deadline and say if it's not sorted out by x date, you will involve the press. If they choose to do nothing, then they have only themselves to blame Wink Evil or Very Mad

I think Beancounter makes some good points re involving the press, however, it is also worth bearing in mind that many of the motoring hacks and their publications will have close relationships with JLR and the advertising from JLR is likely to be an important revenue stream for some. I’d be surprised if a publication with long term advertising commitment from JLR would be over keen on slating them too harshly.

It might just be me being cynical but before pulling the trigger with such comments to JLR might be worth checking out the willingness of whatever publications to print the story.

Again Good Luck to you and hope you get a positive resolution very soon.

That's a fair point BigCat Thumbs Up
The key is choosing which form of media to get the point across, some times a small local newspaper can be the most damaging to a 'local' dealer as it sully's their name locally. There is an independent garage near me, not a JLR, who had bad regional press a last year, I saw the other day when I drove past, that they have sold out - I can only assume the two things are linked.
