Ady - since buying my first Lr in 2000, seeing the decimation of British manufacturing and the growth of cheap often inferior imports I made a conscientious decision to buy uk built cars and hopefully help keep British jobs. I am all for buy British if possible especially in the supermarket

You are one of the ones who has every reason to scream! If you were dealing with local government and had such a run around you'd have several options to get someone higher up/externally to kick butt. But sadly the private sector is lucky enough (for them) not to have such balances. So all you can do is vote with your wallet. Eventually. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Previous governments were guilty of buying elsewhere (or at least saying they were going to) which killed the aircraft industry in the UK. I fully believe they did so under extreme pressure from the USA who had a huge financial hold on us thanks to lend/lease. Germany was rebuilt after WW2 in order to prevent the rise of communism etc. but the UK was left penniless by the conflict. The Govt and BOAC (sometimes known as the "Boeing Only Air Club" thanks to their continually buying Boeing aircraft even though they'd requested UK companies to design and deliver aircraft for them - the VC10 being a nice example. Designed specifically for BOAC's "hot and high" routes and then hardly used) were terrible exponents of shafting UK industry. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Simon, as said, you've been a Saint up until now, so your frustration is more than justifiable and more than overdue IMHO.

I think Beancounter makes some good points re involving the press, however, it is also worth bearing in mind that many of the motoring hacks and their publications will have close relationships with JLR and the advertising from JLR is likely to be an important revenue stream for some. I’d be surprised if a publication with long term advertising commitment from JLR would be over keen on slating them too harshly.
