I'm amazed you are sticking with LR after this saga, I'd be spending my money elsewhere.

Anyway, better luck with the next one Thumbs Up

When the truth comes out, I think you will understand why I have to do what I'm doing. In reality it appears daft but there is a method in there somewhere Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Well LR are sending their head poncho from technical along with chief engineer from unknown engine remanufacturer tomorrow (Tuesday) to inspect the car and make a decision as what is wrong and what happens next. As the service department has already said they think its small end rattle.
If the engine if foobarred then that's it. :roll:the car has been back at the dealers three weeks tomorrow and still the dealer doesn't believe I have grounds for a refund of cost of replacement engine as they "will eventually put it right". I was offered a discount off a new or used LR if I changed within 12 months of my problems last year but following your story I think I will forget it - I no longer have any confidence in LR or its dealers Big Cry

This could be a contender for me next if L/R don't pull their socks up and start pricing their vehicles competitively. Whistle The performance figures alone are good, i have a soft spot for audi's but they usually have an RS in their name.

Off Topic The entire "Q" range was on display outside the office a few weeks ago: a Q3, an SQ5 and a Q7. I took some pictures. Not impressed how they all looked the same, like one model just stretched to get to the next. The resemblance helps you put the similarities between the new RRS and the Evoque in perspective. I know they are part of the same Q range but still...

I'm with Ady555 on this I've always had at least on RR on the drive since 1975 ! and am in the same quandary as to what might be a decent replacement.

The Audi range is tempting as they are generally good cars but I do find the Q7 a bit of a lump. I had an X6 for a while - it was a fine car but I was offered more than I paid for it so it went and I bought my first RRS instead of a FFRR. However the second RRS proved a massive amount of trouble to the extent we were using one of our other cars so it had to go.

It seems as if JLR has lost the plot on reliability and with such poor aftercare I've decided to steer clear - the daft thing is that I'd be back behind the wheel of a RRS if there was an iota of indication they'd changed.

Having had and still got a B5 and had B7 RS4, have to say I love them. Never Gelled with B7 V8, was type of car anyone could get in to and drive quickly but it had no soul. B5 is much more a drivers car especially with 535 bhp Whistle
I digress however Rolling with laughter
The bods have been, the gearbox or torque converter are at fault, the engine is allegedly perfect, so we have another round of tests that can only be carried out stone cold so going to take a few mornings to complete them. If this was a patient rather than a car it would resemble a Swiss cheese by now, so the fun and games go on. Needless to say there was f**k all wrong with any of this before it was taken to bits so yet again grease monkey has not completed his task as should.
This is getting boring, so will let them play games then phone bank and put transaction on debit card in question and that might stir some sort of reaction. Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Presumably because it's the gearbox the dealer will be charging you rather than them paying if it had required another engine? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Sad but probably true - three 'experts' gathered around a malfunctioning car - one the engine rebuilder, one the fitter and one who is looking for the simplest way to get peace. There was only one conclusion that would satisfy all present.

Having had my own issues with my MY10 TDV8 that took a year to reject because of poor build quality and poor dealer support, and further issues with its replacement TDV6 and further dealer issues on defects and phantom servicing I can only have the greatest admiration for your patience and good humour, Simon. I hope you find a solution that is to your complete satisfaction.

Despite LR intervening - and doing a good job after my dealer failed to fix a simple warranty issue after three attempts - they still ask why I only rate their incessant customer surveys for 'recommending LR to somebody else' as '1' despite the fact they scored '10' for their current intervention to address the issues with my replacement vehicle. There comes a point where you have endured so much s@@t and indifference that no matter what they do you could never recommend their product to anybody else. There is a fundamental issue with inertia in dealing with customers created by what I believe to be a toxic LR-Dealer relationship on warranty issues and defects that creates a high level of mistrust - unless the dealer is truly a saint and rolls over and takes cost of some of these issues themselves. So, despite only being a relative newbie with only 12 years of LR ownership (3 cars) my RRS will be my last LR product.

Rest assured, not another penny will I spend on this particular pile! Thumbs Up
It is well documented that the tech struggled to release the torque converter to separate the gearbox so Should it come to it, I think it reasonably easy to prove his negligence in all of this, add the fact that he left debris in induction system causing turbo failure and any county court judge would have no doubt that this particular issue was caused by bad workmanship.
I, long ago lost my sense of humour over all of this, it is simply a means to an end to get out of the car and get my life back after five years of running up phone fuel and and lost work time chasing dealers, running back and forward. Add the loss of one months road tax and warrantee period of engine while they fanny about trying to decide what's wrong.
I don't think they would ever bother sending me a customer survey, there is no chance what so ever, that I would recommend this particular form of long term torture to anybody Big Cry 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

All I can say Simon is this post along with that of muddy wheels has convinced me that this will be my last LR product.

I'm sure all manufacturers have problems with cars its just how you deal with them, I've never had any major problems with any of my LR vehicles lots of niggling ones on electrics but nothing major, its just that daily thought that will it come up with a warning light or limp home mode that are always cleared by turn off & back on or will it be something more serious.

I've reached an age where I just do not need to tolerate a potentially unreliable car or b Censored ks from dealers or manufacturers.

Off Topic Had a Q5 very good car but very boring interior & drive so went back to charm of the RRS, now the SQ5 might be the solution Paul

If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.
Standing outside the dealers, a guy in a brand new Full fat pulled up in a proper Censored . Some bit of trim had fallen off and all he could keep saying was he had wasted 87 grand. Was obviously a young wealthy bloke making a scene, but you can empathize with him and other owners who keep suffering shabby build quality and substandard quality control.
Might sound like sour grapes and I'm sure plenty of people have good cars as LR stay in business which wouldn't be the case if all their cars are lemons. Yawn 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

The problem with people who scream and shout about minor things - such as loose trim - is that they make it bad for those who have proper problems. If you spend your day listening to people with minor problems telling you that you're crap you tend to become thick skinned to the other stuff. Having spent a long time in the public sector I know how that feels.

If you have loose trim you politely talk to the service guys and ask if they can help. Scream and shout and you'll get nowhere - and neither will the next person. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
