Thanks Bex, yes that I think is the course of action I might take. It really is a principle thing for me. I simply dont believe the car should have failed like this. Hiding behind the terms of a warranty does not affect my statutory rights as a consumer. I believe it could be argued that this vehicle is not fit for purpose. I have used the vehicle wholly in the manner for which it has been designed; and have conformed with all the manufacturers recommendations on care (servicing etc).

LR are being very short sighted here I believe.

Bev,

LR are simply 'trying it on'.....imagine how much money they save 'wriggling' their way out of claims such of yours!!!

Also, when they say the turbo has failed what has actually happened?? The turbo failed on my VW Golf but it actually turned out to be a seized variable vane nozzle....VW wanted to fit a new turbo when all it needed was to be stripped down and cleaned....VW wanted £1200 + vat but I got the whole job done for £500 with an independent agent!!!!

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Yes, the actual fault is only a diagnosis. I have to say that since the fault cleared itself (indeed, before I originally took the vehicle in to Hunters), that it hasn't re-occurred. No noise, no loss of power, no oil consumption, no black smoke on acceleration....

I spoke to a fellow last week who runs an exhaust and tuning business. He has turbocharged many cars (and runs an R8, GT-R) and says that he would be inclined NOT to get the work done at all...? He says he would be VERY suprised if the unit is inspected that there were anything wrong at all. He says more likely a technical glitch or some minor wear or maybe the unit over heated..?

Over here from Disco3 as that site is not playing for me!!! Sad havnt read all of this but I have 2 x 06 D3 TDV6s that both had failed turbos just (few weeks) outside of warranty. Luckily took out Tesco extended warranty and that saved my financial bacon. Generally advice on t'other site is don't go out of warranty without some sort of extended cover. Tesco gets a general Thumbs Up

Sorrrrreeeee if you good folks know on this, just here on a flying visit! Whistle

PS just read a bit more. We did a straw pole on WWW.DISCO3.CO.UK and found that 20% of respondants had suffered turbo failure so not an uncommon experience.
