Tools to Replace front brake pads?

I'm thinking of replacing my front brake pads myself as I recall it being said it is very easy.

The key questions is do I need any specific tools that I may not ordinarily have in my basic tool box?

Can anyoe who has done this comment on the need for the bleed jar - That doesn't make sense to me as I won't be touching the fluid or pipes?

I think the idea of having the jar is because you have to press the pistons into the caliper housing which will push the brake oil. You could forgo this route by opening the brake fluid reservoir and allowing the excess fluid to flow out.

That's the only reason I can think of! Smile Malaysia Boleh!

Depends if your brake fluid has been filled during the course of the wear, i opened the lid placed a rag around the opening and kept an eye on the level whilst depressing the cylinders....

My levels were fine and did not expel any surplus...

The reservoir should cope with normal pad wear, if it has been topped up during normal wear then it may overflow when new pads are fitted. Good reason NOT to top up during normal use unless the level goes too low as per the manual in which case seek the leak! Cheers

Thanks for all this..

Have changed the pads easily.

Also have to change the sensor and having trouble repalcing this. I can't seem to be able to do it without pulling the wheel arch lining out? Is this correct, and if so how do I do that as the rubber stops don't seem to want to move. I'm hesitatnt to use to much brute force in case I break something..?

I recall this less clearly but seem to think front was easy rear more difficult as the connector was less accessible. Do not recall removing liner though..... I am having some recollection of undoing clips but realising afterwards i didn't need to.

The clips I did undo the centre pulled out a few mm allowing the clip to relax and pull out..... IIRC i offered the new cable next to the old to see where the connector was as it wasn't that clear...

Hope this is of some use Confused

If you don't sort it post a pic and it may jog the grey matter a little more .... Laughing

EASY??! Shocked

I cannot see how you can get your fingers in there without removing some of the clips.

I now have two undone and am still sruggling to get enough access to apply leverage to disconnect the original sensor cable.

For a wear and tear part this is a ridiculous design IMO land Rover... Evil or Very Mad

Looks like I'll have to get more cli[ps out or give up and drive to the stealer tomorrow!

I have the free servicing, unfortunately doesn't stretch to brake's... I had some time to kill so thought I'd give it a go... The pads were a sinch.. the sensor is a b Censored tard and I'd like to see pictures of how to replace it easily as it's seems impossible!

Dealer seems to have given me an incompatible sensor cable too.. Now that I can see it having flexed the liner all the way back!

If i get time tomorrow i'll have a look remind myself and assist further if able - i don't recall it being a problem - certainly fronts were easy IIRC...

Rear i think it was a case of sliding underneath and tracing the cable back to the connector
