2014 Range Rover Sport L494 SDV6 - Major Electrical Faults

Driving to work this morning in my L494 and all of a sudden get a 'park brake' not available warning, shortly followed by pretty much every other system fault including, special modes not available, gearbox fault, E-diff fault, Lane departure fault, no speedo and also noticed right hand headlight pack not working.

Managed to limp to work and let vehicle shutdown, restarted and all faults are still present. I'm thinking for all systems to go down at once it could be an earthing issue?

Has anyone here had similar and would like to point me in a general direction? Mrs in on way to work bringing my scanner, not sure what that will show though, considering the amount of faults presently!

Just hit 227K fault free miles and now this!!!

Thanks to all in anticipation

Mike

Hi

Many thanks for your spot on diagnosis!

Found the offside earth stud completely sheared off, temporary fix by earthing via the accelerometer stud, couple of new studs on order, think I'll do the nearside at the same time to avoid a repeat performance!

I'm not complaining considering my mileage!

Just out of interest, did you get new earth studs installed (JLR special insertion tool required) or did you earth them down at another point / another way?

Many thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm going to try the JLR replacement studs as I've fabricated a tool to insert it, failing that I've got a Avdel Gun and inserts, so at least I have a fall back.

Saturday morning job I feel!

It’s quite reassuring to hear that the engines can do these miles. You don’t hear many good things about these cars, only the bad things. I’ve had my car almost 8 years now and still l enjoy driving it. I hope my car will last long enough to do similar miles. If I continue do my yearly mileage (3k a year) I’d have to keep the car for another 76 years though…It could become a family heirloom…….

Just my experience, but the cars I have owned during my high mileage years rarely gave trouble from the engines. Although my current annual mileage is now low, circa 5k, I try to minimise journeys where the engine doesnt get up to temp. Im on 97k and fully expect another 100k out of the engine. Regular oil changes are the key. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

I make sure my car gets up to temperature every time I use it. I know that short journeys don’t agree with diesels. I also get the service done yearly irrelevant of the mileage so it gets an oil change as a minimum yearly, every time the MOT is due. I totally agree with the regular oil changes
