Metal weights under rear bumper ? why ?

Hi,

Just inspecting underneath and I've discovered two large counterbalance weights on the very rear of the car (probably 10-15kg each), they swing around freely and they're next to the exhaust exits but not linked.

Anyone have any clever ideas what they're for ?

Nice - what genius decided that they would be a good idea ? I wonder how much they weigh ? Clearly got to have some effect on economy.

Nah - not worrying about economy at all. It's better than the RS6 for sure. Just wondered what the heck they're for - now I know - but certainly they will effect economy, just like driving an aerodynamic brick also does.

I used to be a helicopter technician and we used something similar in the nose to reduce harmonics, pimimtive but effective.

You could always try loosening your spare a little and seeing if the pendulum has the same effect..... Whistle Rolling with laughter

I worked on Westland Lynx for 15 years and the vibration absorber on top of the Main Rotor Head had to be tuned using a series of extra circular rings you bolted under the top cover. Used to love doing that job, we called it 'Bonk Testing' as you attached a piece of electrical kit to the vibration absorber to take the measurements and then 'bonked' it on the side with your hand.
