| It turns out it was a wiring issue. The yellow wire (+5v) was broken about 1" from the main harness, which meant it was a right pig to splice a new piece of wire on but finally managed to do it.

I'm assuming there is 5V, GND and Signal, will hunt down wiring diagram to confirm
I'll double check the wiring and also do a continuity check to GND and try and find the +ve 5V ... |

Managed to wiggle it out and i can see why the comments on undoing the +ve cable, thanks for your support.
