United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

QQUESTION:-

So if DR has been fitted on the Supercharged model and also offered as an option on other models since the introduction of the RRS, why are there not more complaints circulating about what Land Rover say is "just the standard noise the ARC valve makes and therefore not a fault"?

ANSWER:-

The amount of noise emitted by the ARC valve must differ from one vehicle to another! On some cars it cannot be heard at all, but on others it varies from "noticeable" to "untolerable" for the owner. Even VOR recognised a variation exists from one car to another.

OR

As some cars without DR fitted also report knocking from the front suspension, at least some of the dealers are wrongly diagnosing a knocking noise as being attributable to the ARC valve and are using the TB issued by LR to do nothing about it - eh Doc!

If this is the case, then LR and the dealers need to investigate reports of front suspension noises properly. If the cause is something other than the ARC valve, then the dealer should be able to correct the fault. If the noise is indeed the ARC valve, then the dealer should submit and Electronic Quality Report to LR. Then when LR recieve sufficient reports to trigger action, a solution should be found.

At the moment all front suspension complaints from owners appear to knocked back by the dealer on the basis of LR's Technical Bulletin stating knocking emitted by the front suspension is normal and not a fault.

Here's my solution Mr LR:- How about fitting an accoustic hood around the valve to deaden the noise?

Just for info:

I took my TDV8 out this afternoon specifically to listen for the knocking sound and to test the general handling. Couldn't hear anything unusual.

Didn't have that problem on my (non DR) last RRS either after 14500 Miles.

Only covered 750 miles in this one though.

Has eveyone who has this knocking noise had it from new or is it something which has developed over aperiod of time?

My car was perfect for the first 4k miles.

Doc, I do hope yours NOT the noise and is somthing for which a cure is found. Problem is, you will always be listening for it to reappear as the suspension 'knock'.

Just been driving a loan 07 HSE from my dealer. There is no indication of the knocking that is so appartent on mine.

Surely LR cannot explain this total difference as manufacturing variation. I have the loan vehicle for a couple of days so I will keep you updated. It will be interesting to get the dealer comments when I return it.

DOC - look forward to the outcome of your dealer visit.

I Collected my car today at 4pm from HILLENDALE in NELSON (FAB GUYS - THANKS AGAIN) and guess what????

NO knocking sound!

They replaced the Anti roll bar drop link bushes which were U/S - and that’s it - no excuses - no LR said - Just drop it of and they fix it!

I was so please I went on a 4 hour tour through Manchester etc to find all the potholes that I could and NO KNOCKING!

So...

The knocking sound on my car sounded like...

du du du du dump - long and drawn out over holes etc this is the noise it made when knocking was there.

du dump (the normal noise as the front and rear wheels hit the holes etc now)

Does this help ANYONE?

Thanks goes to AUTOLINES for suggesting Hillendale LR - I 'd have sold the car if it were not for Hillendale - and thanks to all you guys that have helped and supported me - now its time to sort the rest of you out!

I absolutely without reservation recommend and will be buying my next LR from:

HILLENDALE LR Nelson
www.hillendale.co.uk
Tel 01282723723
Steve Marsden on Service knows all about it and was really helpful!

AND FFS steer well clear of the chiseling tw8ts at:

JAMES EDWARDS St Helens or Chester as there Censored hawks.
