United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Went out for a drive today and heard the intermittant knocking noise. Naturally fearing the worse, I also wondered how I could have missed it before.

Imagine my relief much later when I remembered the half empty bottle of water I'd crushed into the fridge compartment! Removed it and problem sorted!

Just had to share the story here as no-one other than a forum member would understand what I was talking about or be in the least bit interested!

Sold - 56 TDV8 HSE in Java Black EBONY/RHODIUM/PRIVACY GLASS

A pen left loose in the front cupholders make the same noise when you go round a corner as you go over bumps and round corners ............. at elast that what was casuing the odd tapping noise that I heard when I first had mine. As I use the cupholders as junk storage rather than their original purpose I have cut some of that sticky mesh carpet underlay stuff to fit and now no more pens rolling around in the cupholder! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

What a relief for you Doc. But the indications that something other than the ARC valve was causing the problem was plain for ANY LR dealer to see all along!

Those indications were the fact that the problem ONLY started immediately after the suspension lowered inself at speed, therefore a component must have been damaged when that happened!

So if one dealer can diagnose and rectify the problem so swiftly, we are left with the question of why could your original, and presumably supplying dealer, not do the same for their loyal customer?

What is more important is we are also left with the question of how many more owners are there out there who have also been let down by their dealer. It would appear other dealers are also jumping to the wrong conclusion by diagnosing the fault incorrectly and then issuing what appears to be the all too familiar statement to the customer of:- 'If it's the front suspension knocking, then it will be the ARC valve. The Technical Bulletin issued by LR states "The noise the ARC makes is normal and is a characteristic of the car and therefore not a fault" so there is no more we can do.'

SO HOW DO WE STOP THIS HAPPENING? Well in all reality, as an individual, the owner is left trying to tell the dealer he is not doing his job properly - according to VOR, that is only going to upset the dealer and therefore will not produce results.

I suppose in therory, dealers like Hillendale need to submit Electronic Quality Reports to LR informing on another dealers inappropriate warranty action - but I do not see that happening either.

So any senseable suggestions anyone? Perhaps The Voice of Reason might condider coming in at this point with his opinion!

To right rrsjo

The real worring point here is how dangerous is it if the dealers are saying that a knock is normal and in the case of doc it is something else Question

I'm still making my way through the 10 pages of dialog but I wanted to add a couple things...

We all have different tolerances when it comes to odd noises in our cars. Me, I'm obsessive when it comes to any noise coming from my car. I can hear the faintest of rattles, squeaks, etc and they are all unacceptable to me. Case in point, I have been asking a friend, who also owns a 2006 RRS s/c, if he experiences this suspension noise. He claims his is as quiet as can be. He drove to NYC this weekend and the first thing we did was took his out for a ride. Sure enough, his makes the same noise as mine. To him, its non-existent.

I dropped off my 6 week old RRS with less than 700 miles back to the shop because I cannot stand this noise anymore. I asked for a tech to come out for a ride. I was told that they would look at it and if they cannot find anything, they would call me to come out to duplicate the sounds. This is my problem with all dealerships nowadays... The techs are techs; they no longer practice the art of being a mechanic. So if there are no fault codes or TSB's, there must be nothing wrong.

I will say this: If this problem continues and no fix is made, I'm initiating a buy back. Paying $72k USD for a beautiful vehicle that sounds like a NYC taxi with bad bushings is wrong and I'm not getting stuck with it. nYc

AGREED!

GOOD POINT!

Maybe we should make a list of good / not so good LR dealers?

I'd have driven to Russia to get this real problem fixed - It Censored me off theat my local dealer could not be ar5ed spending a little more time looking for this fault!

We should have a convoy to Hilledale for diagostics!

I'm forwarding this info to my local dealer that has my vehicle. Finally, a place that works the problem rather than looking up service bulletins and kicking the tires nYc
