Brake pads worn warning

Hello everyone, I have a MY23 L461 with 26000 miles on the clock and I have just had a brake pads worn warning come up. It initially came on and then went away for a few days, but is now permanently on.

Is 26000 miles too soon for my pads to be worn or is this more likely a sensor failure? I have a normal driving style (I think!) and most of my miles are a weekly 200 round trip commute. I use adaptive cruise control a lot; is this more harsh on the brake pads? I previously had a 2020 Disco Sport with adaptive cruise control and I traded that in with 42000 miles with no pad issues.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Paddy

There have been reports of brake pads - particularly at the rear needing replacement at less than 10k with lots of use of Adaptive Cruise due to continual feathering of brakes. If you look on the US forum there are loads of threads about it.

Only way to tell is measure pads in the callipers to see if they are worn.

I've spoken to an indie who says it is possible, so I have asked for a quote to compare against the main dealership. I did read some posts on the US site, hence my query about ADC, but was wondering if anyone on this side of the pond had had the same.

Paddy, 27,000 miles and I have the same message. looks like it's the rear pads that are gone. landrover circa £400, local indy doing them for £350.

On another note how are your tyres looking? I need all 4 replaced as well as the pads

Hi Chunk, had the rear pads replaced today at a main dealer as the price was much the same as the indie. The main dealer also do Blue Light discount which brought it in at £436. Tyres are okay at the moment, thankfully!

seems about the right mileage. I have 48k on the clock and am coming up to my second set of front pads. garage says the front wears quicker on these as the front does most of the braking. mind you the price for the pads themselves comes in at about £220

Paddy, you are doing well to get 26k out of the front tyres with no sign of needing to be changed.

nigels888, that's very strange as my front pads are still fine at 27k miles but the rears needed changing.

Just a thought, could it be that one of you is driving a hybrid PHEV and the other is not hence the difference in brake pad wear? Be interested to know

Ah ok, yours is an L494 with a different braking system so will be different usage compared to the L461. I got to nearly 30k in my 70 plate without needing pads before i traded it in

Hi,

I’m on my fifth Sport (see my sig block below).

Most went back at 3yrs/36,000 miles except the last one (post retirement) which went back at 54 months /24,000 miles.

I can ‘t remember when I last bought brake pads!!!!

I used to get 32-36,000mls out of a set of tyres too.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this L461 D300.

Scrumps, funnily enough this is my 4th and the first one I’ve needed brakes for.
