Will start on the wheels soon, have rubbed down the bad paint on the roof will get it etched primed and sanded for top coat sooner rather than later

Found an hour to etch prime the peeling roof paint it will do over the winter if iv still got the sc next spring it will go in for bady work. Still got the sc snout to overhaul just don't seem to get any free time.
Did manage to swop out the front grill for the correct type.

Wheels replaced, big thanks to Richard on here who I bought the wheels from he delivered then as well while down my way for work. This now gives me time to refurb the originals at some point. Still have the sc to service and lower control arm to replace.

Hi there! what did you use on the external C pillar trim?

Electric polisher with an orange pad with a few blobs of macquires scratch remover. Came up like new.

Took advantage of the last of the nice weather and swopped out the suspension pump, it was working but would put up "raising slowly" when raising due to the piston being worn from the previous owner who ran around with a permanent suspension fault due to the usual crack in the air drier back plate which I fixed the 1st week I got the car.

The removed pump is a genuin landrover so a result iv got a new piston and barrel waiting to go on plus air drier medium.

A fully strip down and rebuild next week then I like to keep a spare working pump on the shelf in the garage. And iv just used the new 1 well...........I'm a pump short.

O/S lower control are and both track rod ends to do then finally the s/c snout refurb iv been promising my self

Got around to swopping out all the interior bulbs for led including the vanity mirrors and wing mirror puddle lights.
It's the little things.....

Mot day today, clean bill of health.
RESULT

1st proper frost of the year so used the heated screen function for the 1st time only to find the passenger side didn't defrost doh. Drivers side cleared in a couple of minutes.

So break out the multi metre first things to check are the under bonnet fuses 30 amp x2 one for each side. Yep all good relay works easy check is to remove and refit it you should hear and feel it click.

Next is to pull off the internal A pillar covers the are x2 connection on each side for the screen heater elements top one has purple wire that's the power in quick check with the dvm yep 14ish volts. Engine running heated screen function selected.

Next the bottom connector it's got a black wire that's the ground you don't get any volt reading here you need to test for ground at the connector, make sure all the cars power is off no ignition on. Turn the dvm to continuity you can use the the heads of the bolts on the inside of the A pillar for a ground connection for 1 lead of the dvm the other lead to the black connector......zero ohms is what your after.

Well all those checks seem to suggest the cars electrics are working fine the final check is to unplug the screen element connectors from the x2 plugs and test the screen for continuity these are the ribbon like connector.

You should get 1 ohm resistance........ iv got 53.2 ohms that's way to high conclusion is the heated screen element on the passenger side is open circuit.

The only fix for this is a new screen as its a function that's hardly used I think this will be left.

Double trouble the new to us V8 D3 ulez cars heated screen also failed to operate same tests performed fault found to be poor connection at the earth side of the screen both left and right. Quick clean up and all fixed.

Result.....partly.

New thermostat fitted the old one was jammed open causing over cooling seems to be a common issue with this type of 3 piece stat. Engine and car warm up nicely now.

So what year d3 v8 is ulez complient

Any year there all good for the ulez.

Cars been throwing lean codes bank 1 since I replaced the stat and reset the fuel trims with my gap tool. Just to be safe got out the smoke machine and checked for any vacuum leaks.......none found. Then it started throwing lean codes for both banks well I had a new maf sitting here I dropped it in cleared the fuel trims again and it's been good all day where as before the engine light would come on within 15 mins of driving.
Fingers crossed.

Hopefully will find time to replace the sc bearings and coupler over xmas

Time to strip the sc down and replace the bearings and coupler, bacon bap and coffe 1st.
