And to be clear I did nothing all day but provide food and that was a short walk to tescos for bacon and sausage baps, my very talented mate John a mechanic did the whole repair in less than a day.




My miss fire count is now zero. The coupler had about 10mm play in it
. New bearings new coupler power delivery very smooth no more knocking on idle.

Job done

Just to keep me on my toes a new air tank due to slow raising, got that fixed then the drivers door actuator started messing around. Luckily I keep a spare in the garage....job for tomorrow.


Almost finished.....I hope it will be proper ready for the summer.

Excellent progress and a rolling project.... 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

It does seem to be testing me, I went to change the drivers actuator this afternoon iv done a few on D3s and got it down to less than half an hour.......could I get the window to release from the clips could I +×+× so iv walked away from this 1 this afternoon and will try again another day.

Went back for another go on my drivers door actuator this afternoon, just under 45 mins start to finish



I used a trim tool to release the window clip at the back then just released the easy to get at 1 and out it popped.

Time to turn my attention to my radio, nothing wrong with it, it all works but at some point in the cars life the front facia panel of the radio has been damaged, a crack here x3 broken buttons. And having just had hand surgery anything heavy duty repair is off the cards.

I had to replace the terrain control panel due to a crack as well so while doing that it made sense to sort the radio.

I happen to have a duff radio from our new to us D3 sitting here it was the 1st thing I replaced on the D3 it had water/fluid damage and was causing a serious battery drain and apart from the radio model number on the front facia panel is identical even if the radio isn't.

Pulled the radio out and stripped it down.

Broken buttons and other damage button 4 the fm button reverse on the selector.

Remove the top metal.plate and unclipped the ribbon cables





Remove x2 screws and unclipped the front panel and it's off. You could now at this point just replace the whole front panel with your replacment. I could not find any electrical difference for the front control panel pcb what so ever. I however swopped the pcbs over not knowing if the duff D3 pcb was working or not it just simply unscrews.
The little lcd surround has to be snapped out the radio model numbers are different, you need a tiny dab of super glue or do what I did as mine had gone off a soldering iron to plastic weld to secure it in place. Reassemble refit and test.



When my hands healed iv got just the offside lower control arm todo it sqeeks the previous owner did the nearside doh but not both then it's tyres off and refitted and balance a full alignment then that's the last mechanicals. It's going for some paint after that then I'm going to enjoy driving it ulez free it has grown on me but I still favour my fullfat v8.

Well there's a different approach to physio  2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Just had to repair the afs on my nearside headlight. I noticed it was permanently low so a quick check on here found a how to guide.

Like the original poster the rod was wound in completly a little clean up regressed refit and test.

Normal beam pattern returned. How great is this place.

Continuing the small jobs while my hand heals it was time to sort out the instrument cluster.
It has always had a crack in it all be it small but it has got bigger


After I removed it


Cluster removed plastic screen replaced and refitted its a 10 minute job.
I bought a sh item off the bay for a mk2 freelander they use the exact same cluster and are more than half the price compared to the premium range rover sports seem to command.

As a fellow 4.2 owner, I really do think these cars are worth looking after.

Give it a few years and they’ll be sought after. There’s something special about them and you don’t see that many on the road now.

I’m gradually sorting mine out, although it’s still a daily driver, but given the hopefully better weather coming, I can get the TR6 out instead and do a few things like caliper rebuild and full wheel refurb.

I think I can see light at the end of the tunnel iv ticked off a fair few items I new about and more I didn't know about. The last couple of bits are easily sorted . I intend on enjoying it properly once completed.
I'm looking at paint shops to sort out the blemishes.
