England 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Black smoke from one exhaust

Hi, new to site and Range Rover ownership. So bought a 2010 3.6 tdv8 with reduced power, and black smoke from left exhaust as you look at it from back, anyway 2 new turbos later and back to full power. However on cold start up the left exhaust still smokes black but only until the engine revs die down after a minute or so, then completely clear until you rev it then black smoke again. When I’m driving no smoke at all unless I boot it then a puff of smoke then it’s ok, any ideas? Thanks Harry

Mine does exactly the same if I use kickdown , had it about 18 months now sailed through its MOT so I am presuming everything is ok, on 95,000 miles with no performance issues.

Thanks for reply, I can understand it happening on kick down but not on start up and only one exhaust, almost like it’s over fuelling on one Side of the engine

It would be worth having it plugged in to a diagnostic and checking things like the EGRs, injector trims etc. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I’ve had blanking plates fitted to both egrs and there are no fault codes at all, do the egrs need deleting via a remap?

Yes, the TDV8 needs a remap to delete the EGRs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
