Yes mate I've tried a friends battery what was less than a month old and the battery I got was from a local car spares not sure on branding etc . But I did put it on charge last night just incase .

I'm just going to have to drop the starter off and try it .

Also while I turn the crank pulley see if the flywheel is moving .

Hope to god its just a crap starter 🙏

I'm stuck at work till 5 so ill be stressing about this all day hahaha

Earth strap Thumbs Up

Probably nothing wrong with the starter in the first place

RH engine mount - front of suspension turret on chassis - body

Earth terminal connector is part of the BMS Thumbs Up

Little update.

I got the starter off the housing and pressed start.
Nothing .

Got someone to rock the crank bolt so I could see the flywheel turn and thats all OK.

All I can think now is either that earth strap or the live lead aint a very good connection to the starter .

Am i right in thinking there should be a copper washer where you put the 13mm nut for the live lead?

This starter didnt come with one and im thinking it aint a good connection.

Put the starter back on

Run a jump cable from the engine/gearbox/transfer case to a clean point on the body. Ideally, a 2nd one to the chassis too

Then see if it starts. That will eliminate/confirm an earth problem

I could do with turning the engine a few cycles by hand to eliminat engine seizure 100% really I think .

Does anyone know the size of the crank nut ?

How common are the earth straps to snap or fray on a 2009 range ? Its done 145k aswell .

I've got everything crossed its not seized and its just a crap earth

Fairly common...

Easy to confirm/eliminate with a jump lead

The starter won't run with it unbolted from the engine, as it isn't earthed.
You could earth the starter body (near the mounting holes) with a jump lead to battery -

Right .
Still.no luck .

Engine turns with a spanner done around 8 rotations and I'm pretty happy with that.

Put an earth strap to the alternator casing and to a nice part of the chassis for an earth and still nothing .

The starter makes a noise but nothing like a dead battery starter noise .

To add to my problems I've snapped the connector that goes to the starter positive. So I havent got a clue what I'm gonna do with that .

I'm stumped now . I thought it would have turned overat least .

If you’ve not done so already I’d have a look on YouTube for how to test a starter motor, it’s quite easy to test them, you should be able to test both the stater motor and solenoid to see if you have a problem with either, with regard to the broken connector if you’ve got your old starter I’d test that also, depending with what’s wrong with that it might be possible to swop the solenoids over, I'm not sure from your description but I’m guessing the broken connector is on the solenoid.

Have you snapped the ring terminal with the captive nut?

No I've bost the bloody ring comnector on the lead . The lad who got his hands up there to get it back on said he needed to bend it so it was easier ......then snap.
So I'm.a bit stuffed there .

As for testing the starter......the starter is 100% fine . Even had it tested at the motor spares place aswell .

I think it may be time to let someone else have a look who knows what they're doing round the range rovers
