So is this any diesel JLR engine or specifically the SDV6/TDV6 variants?

If the DS has it then it must be the 2 litre as well but then aren't they two completely different engine designs?

If so, basically don't get another JLR diesel? Was going to get a Disco5 or Velar 3 litre diesel but very nervous now.

What do you guys think?

Get a petrol Dangermouse.Its not just JLR having problems with diesels it’s most manufacturers,,since they started fitting dpf’s Their has been nothing but trouble.Before dpf’s & cats Diesel engines ran for ever If regularly serviced & they will have the same problems when they start fitting particulate filters to petrols. Andy.

I would have gone for the three litre petrol in the Velar or Disco5 but they've pulled that model in both and didn't really want to get a 2 litre in either of those.

Not too keen on the 5ltr RRS at the moment for Central London so wanted to go for a Velar or Disco.

If the Velar SVR wasn't going to be full on (which it will be) I would have considered that as well but just don't know now.

JLR should have fitted the 3.0sc in the evoque as I think that would be a good seller. Andy.

If you google a bit, you will find the dilution issue with nearly every manufacturer.

My diesel BMW showed a longer service due then normally (about 34000km instead of 30000), but I changed the oil every 20000km. At 18000km I have seen a little drop in the board computer. I had also a dip stick and there the oil was slightly under the MAX value.

I drive my RRS with the same profile (work, holiday, weekend) and the service due is dropping faster then the driven kilometers.

I will keep an eye on it, but will go the way tp change every 20tkm for several reasons.

The SDV6 is a lovely engine. I had 270PS in my BMW and it was a fast sedan. I suppose that the RRS is as fast ad the BMW up to 160... Range Rover Sport HST D350

Its annoying they dropped the engine from the Velar even if they had the SVR coming as The P380 would have been my choice really.

They still sell it abroad which is even more annoying! They had the SI6 in the Disco5 as well so they had it there in slightly detuned version !

My BMW X5 (now gone) was the same, 100% reliable but no DPF.
I think that BMW will have the same issues with their cars now they are also fitted with DPF's.

My BMW also had a DPF and I didn't know anything about oil dilution. After searching in internet I have seen that every manufacturer has oil dilution troubles with their Diesel cars equipped with DPFs.

As mentioned, I changed the oil every 20tkm instead of 30tkm. Range Rover Sport HST D350

Interesting to hear of your experience. I think you have exactly the right strategy for your oil changes. I suspect that you will have no trouble doing what you are doing...

Good question. For me all mlre than 15km is no more short journey. Why? Because the cooling temperature is reaching the working area. I will buy a OBD dongle to check the cooling temperature in real, but as mentioned, for me it's important that the engine has reached the working temperature. I am trying to avoid journeys where I don't reach 90 degrees... Range Rover Sport HST D350

On Disco3 there was mention of needing to drive for 20 minutes at 40-70mph in order for the DPF to get hot enough to regenerate. Any shorter, presumably, and you're in to partial regens and lots of unburnt fuel in the sump...

Yes, that's true but it is needed to regenerate the DPF if full, or nearly full...

On my old BMW you could recognize an ongoing regeneration (lower gear, deeper sound) and so, I drove few kms more until it was finished. It happened once in quarter year. All other regenerations were done during a journey.
I didn't recognize an ongoing regeneration with these "symptoms" on my RRS unfortunately Range Rover Sport HST D350

Agree, it would be great if we got an indication that one was in progress/required, at least we could then deal with the issue!
Very poor design by LR software experts!
