I wonder if used SVR's are pitched at such big margins to encourage buyers to order a factory build and earn the dealership a bigger bonus from LR?

I had a very bad experience with WBAC when selling my 3yr old 50k mile FFRR in 2014 shortly before I took delivery of my new RRS. I got an online valuation which was a bit higher than the dealer's p/x so I went for it and opted for WBAC's collection service. Several days went past with no contact from them so I phoned them and got directed to a local office who knew nothing about me. After a few more phone calls eventually I got a call from an advisor who said he was arranging the collection. He then told me that the value of my car had reduced because it was now several days since the first valuation. I protested that the delay wasn't in any way my fault but he insisted that he couldn't do anything about it. The value was still slightly above the dealer's p/x so reluctantly I agreed to go ahead. Then he phoned me back a few hours later and said that I had to take some photos of the car and send them to him which I duly did. The following day I received an email stating that the valuation of the car had been reduced again because of its condition. Even the dealer who had offered me the p/x had commented that the car was in very good condition for its age and mileage so I was very angry about this. By now WBAC's offer was below that of the dealer's so I told WBAC to stuff it where the sun don't shine. I went back to the dealer and they stood by their original p/x offer. I don't feel like dealing with WBAC ever again Btw has anyone used the Value your Car page on Land Rover's website http://www.landrover.co.uk/finance/value-your-car/index.html? Are actual dealer p/x values similar? |

Thats an interesting link, I've got a 9 month old Disco 4 and went to a localist dealer the other week to look at a used RRS they offered me a stupidly low part ex in my opinion, basically my car has lost 23k in 9 months, I've just used that link and they offered me the lowest amount. also if you try to put a used car off a dealers web site into the calculator then it won't give you a price and therefore you can't see how much they actually would give you for one of their own cars as part ex.

No I only added a few k with a black pack. Tow bar an I think that was it. Mine is a hse luxury so it's top of the range anyway. I'll be looking at porsches as well as they don't lose anywhere near the money land rovers do. I love land rovers and I work for them so get discount but the dealer network is atrocious |

These prices shown on the link to LR, are so unrealistic and a complete rip off, it cannot be true, anyone accepting those prices obviously has to much money.

What many purchasers of new cars don't realise is that the minute you have purchased it, it looses a minimum of 20% VAT plus other taxes and then depreciation very fast. If purchasing new then you must forget what you paid for it, values will generally only go down. If your that unhappy that you want rid in less than a year or two, what do you expect?.

duvl - I feel for you its probably worth £63 - £65k retail but the dealers want a decent margin as they can sit on stock for a few months as they are reluctant to move on sale prices. You could try speaking to quality traders and put it on sale or return to get more back or even asking them to buy it you should get a little more than a PX value.

Gjw1 I agree on the losses on new cars it's all supply & demand, I had a brand new X type in 2001 that I waited 7 months for, owned it for 1.5 years & only lost about £2.5k on it as there were very few used about at the time. RRS have also had great residuals up till recently but you now should get at least £5-7k discount/over allowance on your trade in when you buy one new so this should make up for a slightly higher loss when you trade it in. The guys who buy without hard negotiation & playing dealers off against each other are the ones I feel for as they will pay nearly full price & get a small extra margin on their trade in if they are lucky! In my experience with prestige dealers on new cars, you have to treat them like insurance companies, I always go back to the supplying dealer first when I change but normally they cannot or will not deal again but someone else will! The internet is a great leveller, I would travel anywhere in the U.K. To do the deal on a new high end car as it has saved me thousands each time in the past. |

If it's the same dealer, I would drive down the price of the SVR and accept your trade in value.
