Keep yours this will lose the same or more.

I saw this post but to be honest speaking to 3 dealers you pay full retail with no discount at all and even 2016 used cars are at least advertised at more than new price although lots seem to be stcking now and one I looked at just dropped £2500 today.

I wonder if used SVR's are pitched at such big margins to encourage buyers to order a factory build and earn the dealership a bigger bonus from LR?
If they take one in part ex at say £85k even if they have to sell it on at £95k to a specialist dealer like Tom Hartley, then they are still laughing and they have sold another new one which earns brownie points from LR that the used one didn't. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

But, you are probably saying, "WBAC are rubbish and offer rock bottom". In my experience when I sold my Evoque, they offered more than the LR dealer.

I had a very bad experience with WBAC when selling my 3yr old 50k mile FFRR in 2014 shortly before I took delivery of my new RRS. I got an online valuation which was a bit higher than the dealer's p/x so I went for it and opted for WBAC's collection service. Several days went past with no contact from them so I phoned them and got directed to a local office who knew nothing about me. After a few more phone calls eventually I got a call from an advisor who said he was arranging the collection. He then told me that the value of my car had reduced because it was now several days since the first valuation. I protested that the delay wasn't in any way my fault but he insisted that he couldn't do anything about it. The value was still slightly above the dealer's p/x so reluctantly I agreed to go ahead. Then he phoned me back a few hours later and said that I had to take some photos of the car and send them to him which I duly did. The following day I received an email stating that the valuation of the car had been reduced again because of its condition. Even the dealer who had offered me the p/x had commented that the car was in very good condition for its age and mileage so I was very angry about this. By now WBAC's offer was below that of the dealer's so I told WBAC to stuff it where the sun don't shine. I went back to the dealer and they stood by their original p/x offer. I don't feel like dealing with WBAC ever again

Btw has anyone used the Value your Car page on Land Rover's website http://www.landrover.co.uk/finance/value-your-car/index.html? Are actual dealer p/x values similar?

Thats an interesting link, I've got a 9 month old Disco 4 and went to a localist dealer the other week to look at a used RRS they offered me a stupidly low part ex in my opinion, basically my car has lost 23k in 9 months, I've just used that link and they offered me the lowest amount. also if you try to put a used car off a dealers web site into the calculator then it won't give you a price and therefore you can't see how much they actually would give you for one of their own cars as part ex.

They wonder why people hate dealing with car dealers when they blatantly rip their customers off like this, and they're surprised when you're insulted by their part ex prices

Has lost 23k in 9 months

Always reckon on £800-900 per month on RRS2 so something not quite right here unless you put on a load of extras at time of purchase and these are usually ignored when you px Big Cry

No I only added a few k with a black pack. Tow bar an I think that was it. Mine is a hse luxury so it's top of the range anyway. I'll be looking at porsches as well as they don't lose anywhere near the money land rovers do. I love land rovers and I work for them so get discount but the dealer network is atrocious

These prices shown on the link to LR, are so unrealistic and a complete rip off, it cannot be true, anyone accepting those prices obviously has to much money. Very Happy
Their prices don't ask for any relevant details of what your car has etc, and yes I know extras packs don't increase price much, but some of what people would say are sure essentials, are not taken into consideration at all, and believe me you will pay for all those extra "Packs" fitted, if you are purchasing pre-owned vehicle. If this is an example of the "CON" that Land Rover are pulling, you should refuse to deal with them full stop, the mark ups etc they get, they don't need to rip you off any further. The SVR model is a pure profit gold mine for both LR and dealers, and the discounts given are appalling considering the stiocks they actually have unsold, which might not be the actual choice you want but you can save a mint, from a genuine person selling that wants your repeat trade and servicing. I have compared the prices for several LR vehicles, by using Glass's guide which is giving on average 12% - 20% more listed, the LR low mileage isn't even in the price differences, until you go over 10k miles each year owned, no reduction for only doing 4-5,000 miles a year.
My brothers showroom/service centre (where I get the previous issue of that Glass's guide from) said unless you are getting a massive discount on the new list price, then whatever you do, don't trade in through LR dealers, his other advice is never to use WBAC, as price nearly is always put down at least twice from quote given, and also reduces daily in price, and further on inspection. Be careful out there, and try alternative dealers for trade-ins and purchase price. Whistle John

1.5 yr old RRS 4.4 Autobiography PX against Tesla Model X

Registered Dec 2015 (65 plate) list £88K. Mint condition with 7800 miles.

Tesla, I am told, use 3rd party px buyers and don't offer any discount on either new or used vehicles. i.e. the price you see online/dealership is what you pay. Told today that my pride and joy is only worth to them £55.5K. Excuse was they are inundated with people like me trying to bale out of RRS diesels. They have a glut of them and can't shift them at anything like prices of only a few months ago....hence now hitting people such as myself in the proverbial nuts!

Guess I'm in for the long term then! RRS 4.4AB 15.5MY Fuji/Ivory

What many purchasers of new cars don't realise is that the minute you have purchased it, it looses a minimum of 20% VAT plus other taxes and then depreciation very fast. If purchasing new then you must forget what you paid for it, values will generally only go down. If your that unhappy that you want rid in less than a year or two, what do you expect?.
Many people are getting worried about purchasing Diesels to, with the threatened new taxes and dearer Fuel. John

duvl - I feel for you its probably worth £63 - £65k retail but the dealers want a decent margin as they can sit on stock for a few months as they are reluctant to move on sale prices. You could try speaking to quality traders and put it on sale or return to get more back or even asking them to buy it you should get a little more than a PX value.

Johnski - The comment on it losing 20% straight away isn't really fair its more salesman speak which you get told every time when you try to change a new car after a short time period but the reality in my view is dealers are to greedy if you compare trade in prices with resale but that's coming from a customer view point.

Gjw1 I agree on the losses on new cars it's all supply & demand, I had a brand new X type in 2001 that I waited 7 months for, owned it for 1.5 years & only lost about £2.5k on it as there were very few used about at the time. RRS have also had great residuals up till recently but you now should get at least £5-7k discount/over allowance on your trade in when you buy one new so this should make up for a slightly higher loss when you trade it in. The guys who buy without hard negotiation & playing dealers off against each other are the ones I feel for as they will pay nearly full price & get a small extra margin on their trade in if they are lucky! In my experience with prestige dealers on new cars, you have to treat them like insurance companies, I always go back to the supplying dealer first when I change but normally they cannot or will not deal again but someone else will! The internet is a great leveller, I would travel anywhere in the U.K. To do the deal on a new high end car as it has saved me thousands each time in the past.

If it's the same dealer, I would drive down the price of the SVR and accept your trade in value.
You can't really negotiate the trade in as YOU want to get rid of it but you can negotiate the SVR as THEY want to get rid of it (even at a loss sometimes just to make their books look good) 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?
