Don't worry about going off topic, it's your own thread Wink

Supply mode provides a stable and constant 12v from external source instead of charging the battery. Useful when you want to use car electrics for an extended period of time without starting the engine or if you want to flash an ECU or update CCF (I doubt many will do that on a newish car themselves though). Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Going back 3-4 posts to FKarim's one about now liking Stop/Start - if you regualarly drive the same route and get to know the traffic light phasing then once stopped keep your foot on the brake to stop the engine, engage the park brake, put the gear selector to N then lift your foot off the foot brake and the car will stayed stopped until you engage Drive again when you can hold it on the parking brake ready for get away. Saves you burning the eyes out of the head of the poor guy stopped behind you on a dark night or rainy day.................. Only problem can be when driving off that I try to put the car into drive without my foot on the foot brake and that annoys people behind and makes you rev the engine hard and go no where Rolling with laughter 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What does 'supply mode' do? (I apologise to other readers that we've wandered off topic!).

Edit - here's me not realising there's a whole other page with the answer, before replying...sorry

You can use the charger to supply 12v accessories like a power supply. You get a CTek cigarette outlet socket to plug onto the charger for this if required.

Remember if using a 5A charger that if your RRS batteries have a low charge, and possibly has been for a few days/weeks before you notice then charging below 10% of the battery Ah rating risks the possibility of permanently shortening its life, regardless to what the charger paperwork says. It's all to do with baking on the plate sulphation. Of course those low amp rating chargers are ideal for keeping a full battery full during holidays etc.

Up to my first Evoque I had always used a Maplin Solar Panel trickle charger to keep my car's batteries conditioned but with the advent of smart alternators and Battery Management systems I cannot now plug into the cigarette lighter to charge up. I have now been considering an LR Battery conditioner for my RRS - I had one on my last Evoque and it was very handy until my brother damaged it starting the car when he forgot that it was still plugged in............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Don't get the LR one, though. Buy the Ctek version same thing (or better) at a fraction of the price.

Based on workshop manual there's several variations
1.TDV6 that has a one battery,
2.TDV6 with stop/start with two batteries, 2nd one 14ah.
3.TDV6 with stop/start and for cold climate with two batteries, 2nd one 70ah
4.TDV8 with two batteries, 2nd one 70ah

No config with 3 batteries shown.
Looks like we got no 2 in UK, as my build sheet says LESS AUXILLARY BATTERIES

Again based on workshop manual
1. The primary battery is a 90Ahr, 850CCA Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) battery on all
vehicles.
2 .The secondary battery is a 14Ahr, 200CCA AGM battery on all vehicles with stop/start (except TDV6 3.0L cold climate
vehicles).
3. The auxiliary battery is a 70Ah, 760CCA, AGM battery, in TDV6 3.0L cold climate vehicles with stop/start system ONLY.

Also it sounds like secondary battery is kept isolated by Battery Management system is and charged and discharged based as and when needed so looks like only primary battery gets charged with an external charger. During the engine start, sensitive electronics receive the power from second battery so they are unaffected from the dropping voltage.
On cold climate models, 2nd battery is used in parallel to aid the start motor.

Like many others I found the Stop/Start irritating first but now I know how to control it with brake paddle pressure so I hardly turn it off. So far no issue with Stop/Start, works within minutes of starting the car if I press the brake hard enough.

Hi,

The standard Ctek doesn't include the car connection.

See here for details of the LR kit.

I can't open the Topix link, but for £61.99 I bought a more recent, better specification, higher ampere charger than the LR one, complete with every connector imaginable including a panel for inside the car which gives you a battery condition indicator and allows for the charger to be connected. I'm not sure what the extra £116 for the LR charger gets you.

This is taken from an SDV8 review in Land Rover International:

"Crawling through towns like Knaresborough, the lack of stop-start seems a novelty nowadays, but it’s an option on 2016 MY SDV8s, which helps up the claimed economy to 33.6mpg".

Is this true? I've just ordered an SDV8, and I'd have omitted auto stop-start if I could as I find it so annoying.

Thanks!

You are one of the rare breed of RRS SDV8 owners, so I can't help asking what you think of it. How does it compare to an SDV6?

I use a Ctek 7amp through the towbar electrics which works well even with the car locked in the garage. You can even modify the connector just in case you drive off with it on!!! MY16 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography in Aleutian silver, stealth pack and toys.

LOL, if you stop to think about it, you will rarely come across someone who has shelled out the significant extra for the V8 saying "nah, makes little difference, and the front end is less pointy in the corners". Laughing MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I spent a long time determining which engine I wanted and decided that the V8 was for me. I like the idea of a lower stressed engine and the extra performance was noticeable . Fuel economy is not much of an issue , I am getting a real 9 ltres/ 100 at good cruising speeds. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
