Actually, I was at Westcliff, so didn't have anything to do with the steel or coke side (I was the middle 'C'!).

Hi donny,

I drove both the SDV6 and the SDV8 when deciding to purchase.

SDV6 is a great engine and on paper there is not much between the 2 engines. Driving them both back to back was a big difference.

The SDV8 seemed to have noticeably more torque when pulling away from a stand still or when overtaking at speed. The way the SDV8 gathers speed is incredible for a 2 tonne plus diesel 4x4. Around town it is relaxed and sedate. MPG is slightly higher from the SDV6 but not too much, it all depends on your driving style. The V8 burble is also much more satisfying than the v6.

In today's world of speed cameras and anti speed policies all the engines mentioned will be sufficient to help you lose your licence very quickly. The only way to know what you want is drive them all and go with your heart.

Also not sure how long the V8 diesels will be around in the car market so I wanted to grab one whilst I still could.

I have had a couple of issues though!!!.......apart from a few quality control niggles I did have a problem with the throttle body clogging up causing the vehicle not to start. See thread:-

Seems to be ok since new throttle body fitted but see how it goes.

I dont think you will regret going for the SDV8.

Donny, it sounds like you need to get your dealership to arrange a factory visit, it's a great day out but be warned it starts early with breakfast in the nearby LRE Centre at Solihull. If you are really lucky your dealer can arrange for you to visit on the day your car is built, but they never guarantee that you will actually see it on the line although many folks do get to see their order going down the line. You can arrange a factory visit any time through the LR website - it used to be called "the Home of the Legend" experience. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I would like that, but isn't it expensive? (As regards build date etc., and contacting my dealer, please see the thread I've just started on 'New Orders'!).

V8 burble alone is justification enough, lol. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Thanks for your views, they make good reading! I'm already committed to an SDV8 (in build next month) so there's no going back! Having spent Autobiography money, the extra is only relative, and I don't think I'll regret it. How they suddenly put a V8 engine in an endless line of V6s is another matter!

It seems only Australians buy SDV8s - it must be something to do with the wide-open spaces!
