United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

I was told by a LR technician that the L494 has 3 batteries. The one in the rear drivers side compartment is for the stop/start.

I wonder where the third one is. I disliked stop start in my RRS at first but now have no problem with it. In fact when I get in a car without it I miss it a bit. Just give it a month or two and you'll hopefully get used to it. RRS P460e

Stop/start stopped working on my car after 6 months as the batteries degrade and the car can't charge them up to the 100%, despite doing 16k miles a year. If I put the battery on a conditioner over the weekend stop/start will work for 5 days. I don't know whether it is just a crap battery or the fact I have the 1700W Meridan system.

I miss it. I like the way it works.

Well is that a hint for a way to disable it, to try disconnecting the battery?

The first button I pressed after starting the XF was the button to disable the stop-start, so I was delighted my RRS didn't have it. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

The first thing I used to do after getting in the car was to disable auto stop/start. After reading here some members praising it I decided to give it a second chance and happy to admit I was wrong. It does work very well indeed and because I leave my car on a maintenance charger on weekdays when not in use, it always kicks in as soon as the engine temperature is sufficiently high. I like how I can put my foot on the brake lightly when I know I will be off soon and don't want the engine to stop. Only a firm press of the brake pedal stops it. And ignition turning off when seatbelt is unbuckled - great. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Do you have to charge this battery separately? i.e. are both (or all three) batteries electrically isolated?

I assume the batteries are connected even when the power management shuts things down as I connect the conditioner to the point in the engine bay and it manages to recover the stop/start, which I believe is handled from the small battery in the back.

That makes sense, but how then is one particular battery operating a specific function (such as stop-start)? If they are connected in parallel, why wouldn't the batteries share the load?

You need to charge from engine bay, their is a positive pole & a negative.techys told me not to couple charger straight to battery in boot.

Yes, so I gather - but that implies that the batteries are connected in parallel otherwise they wouldn't both (or all, if there are three) charge. The logic I was querying is how the batteries are, at the same time, isolated when it comes to supplying a load. I'm guessing there must be a diode or equivalent that only lets current flow one way in the charging circuit to each battery.

I have fitted a CTEK Comfort Connector to the fuse box in the boot and trickle charge from my CTEK through that. It takes care of everything like ensuring stop/start, remote park heating etc. can stay operational so the batteries must be linked somehow. I assume the maintenance charger that LR provide as an optional extra (which speaks volumes about unsuitability of standard supplied batteries' capacity but that's a separate topic) uses a similar setup internally but is obviously neater than my DIY job. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I have the same, or similar, kit, and was pondering where to connect it. (I don't get the car until 1 March). The so-called Land Rover conditioner is an old model Ctek re-badged, judging by the picture in the Configurator, and just comes with a cigarette lighter adapter also judging from the picture (despite some forum members saying they've been told not to use the lighter socket to charge the battery!). They used to have a connector which fitted in the windscreen wiper well. At £178, it's a tad more expensive than the £39 I paid for the same piece of kit! (Typical JLR mark-up!). Since then, I've bought a much better version (MXS 5.0) which came with a multitude of accessories and coupling cables, as well as a 'comfort connector' with its own built-in battery condition monitor, all for £61.95 inc. delivery!

I paid more than £61.95 for mine but then it is an MXS 10 which charges faster and also has the 'supply mode'. Still it was a lot cheaper than £178 (don't remember the exact price). Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

What does 'supply mode' do? (I apologise to other readers that we've wandered off topic!).
