This must be one of the best threads on this Forum, you could not write this stuff if you tried, Sports falling of ramp, all the hype about getting his bum into a new Disco Sport etc etc, I for one can not wait to see what heap of junk Muddy buys next, after all, it's about time he changed his (I wont call his float thingy a car) daily transport. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I'm a bit embarrassed about the glowing DS review now reading the large number of owners complaints and since I've plucked up the courage to look elsewhere Embarassed

In my defence considering the price of the DS compared to the RRS2 I was happy with it at first but now I've experienced the competition I can't believe I put up with the Censored during LR ownership as long as I did Shocked

It's only been a month but so far I'm happy with the Milk float Thumbs Up

I was just thinking I've finally been weaned off LR but have seen a 1968 S2A advertised locally that is very tempting as a second vehicle Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

Hi Muddy. What's the expected lifespan of the batteries and how much to replace?

Being a bit anal, I monitor my (TDV8) mpg on a spreadsheet and just for comparison the spreadsheet works out my savings if my car did 30mpg, 40mpg and 50mpg. I have now added another calculation for 110mpg to get some comparison with the PHEV. I have had an unusually high mileage since buying the RRS in March and currently it is projecting I will do 16000 this year - about twice my usual mileage. If I had a car doing say 40mpg, the saving projected on this mileage is £1,132 a year. The new calculation for 110mpg shows a saving of £2,430 per annum. So, say the batteries last 5 years, then as long as they cost less than £12,150 (£2430x5) to buy and install, there's a saving to be had.
Of course those with RRSs buy them because of what they are and accept (largely) the costs and issues that come with them. But it is interesting to see this - well I think so anyway Confused Robin

Paul is correct the batteries have an 8 year/100k miles warranty - everything else is 5 years/62.5k miles Thumbs Up

I don't plan to keep this longer than 5 years although I wish I'd kept Swmbos FL1 which I sold at 5 years for a Mini but that was different Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Eaters,

Although you have been getting out more than expected, I still think you need to get out MORE!!! You don't work for HMRC by any chance, do you?

No links to HMRC - but perhaps if I did have, they'd get their act together... Robin

Muddy, I've found the solution to your Float driving skills on summer tyres on dampish roads in Yorkshire.

We've added a Mk2 PHEV to our family and I must say the for running about and the occasional longer trip there's not a lot to touch it.

Battery Life -While Mitsubishi do have a warranty of 8 years on the battery pack they don't state that this would entitle anyone to a replacement inside that time - I'd expect a declining contribution with age as being much more likely. I would not be surprised to se a 'reconditioning' service starting to emerge in the same way that Toyota battery packs are being repaired with new cells.

I've seen the MuddyW over on the PHEV site but that site lacks the characters that hang out here !! They seem to vary between the fans and the haters. Haters are those who bought the wrong car for the wrong use expecting the BIK tax savings to make their world wonderful. If your trip are normally less that 20 miles you'll definitely save, for regular longer trips of 50miles or more then economy will come closer to an SUV with a 2litre petrol unit.

i don't see most owners keeping it for 8 years, especially MW, months maybe, not years Laughing

Personally something as tech as a Hybrid/PHEV i wouldn't be comfortable keeping it longer than the full warranty as extended often have clauses that could not cover what could be a very expensive repair

I wonder what the residual value will be on an 5 or 6 year old Phev, Big Cry when the battery pack is on the last couple of years warranty ? This could upset Muddys calculations a tad Rolling with laughter In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
