I agree with everything Muddy says, particularly how customers are treated. I will say that JLR is still a great brand and I loved my RRS just could not take the reliability risk in Europe. Saying that, where we spend a good deal of time close to La Rochelle the only British cars (well Tata) we see are LR so the French like them. Having now done 3,500 miles in the Mec 350 GLE SUV I am pleased with my choice. Great engine and nine speed smooth gearbox, £225 VED tax, excellent customer service , 30 yr free breakdown incl free hotel accommodation etc. I should have paid extra and got memory seats rather than just electric and Nappa leather. Air suspension good and in sport mode no great difference from RRS Dynamic. RRS obviously better off road but Merc not bad but I would never go extreme. However, personally I felt my Freelander was better off road than the RRS due to the huge extra weight of the RRS that dug in on sand and mud particularly on hills. Do I regret my change back to Merc - absolutely not. If one wants to do long distance high speed motoring then the Merc 350 GLE takes some beating. Not as economical as hoped but better than my TDV6 RRS. I suspect similar to a new RRS although I don't hang around. (Buck I expect the three of us will meet up at the 'No Name' in the winter to compare notes and sink a few.) Current Merc GLE 3.5d 2016 model, 2011 RRS HSE standard Previous 2012 FL2 liked but boot too small Previous to LR's 3 x Merc E320 estates - fantastic load carriers and long distance cruisers, ultra reliable. Only changed as needed a 4x4 high tow vehicle. Did have a 1955 early LR drop down windscreen and fuel tank under the drivers seat; again very reliable and super rugged. |

Yes I found a 2 year old RRS hybrid for £65k with a range of 1 mile on electric which wasn't much good |

Interesting thread - I like the idea of the Phev as my commute is 15 miles each way. I think once I've got the V8 SVR out of my system though I'd maybe go full electric with the Tesla Model X. The performance is staggering and the charging network improving all the time |

The power is instant thanks to the electric motors (hence Tesla phenomenal 0-60) so by the time the RRS auto stop start and the ZF gearbox wake up I would be gone - I will admit a RRS could catch up and pass me but where I normally drive overtaking is as safe as being a Kamikaze pilot so being in front would give me an advantage |
