United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Many owners, including this one, regularly connect a smart charger to the main battery without disconnecting and have no problems. Even if you do disconnect the battery there are no problems with resetting except perhaps you'll have to pair your 'phone to use Bluetooth.

Get the garage to investigate and then argue with the warranty company whether the fault is wear and tear or not.

Guava in Guildford are supposed to be a good place but I don't know if that's anywhere near you. Good luck! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thumbs Up

BTW Sorry - couldn't find a pic of the reservoir and my RRS isn't here at the moment but if you look in the owner's handbook under 'maintenance' there are a couple of drawings showing you with a description of how to check it. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks again

I spoke to dealer and am booked in tom.i told him to check the things which we discussed and the guy is like the forums lead up the garden path ! It's rubbish as actually I learn here a lot and make more sense.
Will defo look in manual mate and some people say that once Range Rover crosses 100k miles it starts giving problems.. Any of your thoughts as mine is 107000 now.

Paddi I am into property maintenance and I owe you one . If you have any maintenance issues with your property anytime give me a shout please I will be very happy to attend. I will send my details over if there is way to send a private message

Thanks a lot

Oh yes - forgot to say do not mention forums to garages - it never goes down well Laughing

Hope they can fix your issues though. There's no magic number for the mileage at which these cars give trouble as it is about how they are driven and how thorough the maintenance has been (and fortune plays a part).

No need to reciprocate with any favours (but thanks anyway). Post up the results of the investigation as it could help someone else - that's how forums work best.
Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi

Update - car has been in garage since Thursday with the dealer and put a new brake switch but the fault codes still remain. He advsised they checked all mechanical side and could not locate and its diagnosed by their best technician ! Now they need car till Monday as they want to check electrics and carry further diagnosis to identify problem.

My instinct says there is something minor which they are not looking at it or missing out. Fingers crossed let's see what happens. It's just a pain ! Any further ideas by Paddi and other boarders are most welcome.

Thanks in advance

Hi Nas, iv'e been following this post with interest and i need to ask one question to you. Are both of your brake lights working, have you got a blown bulb or have you changed any of them lately ? Just to add have you had your alternator checked as mine was dying and i had these symptoms before it went altogether. These beasts are very fussy when it comes to battery and alternator issues and will play you up. I did purchase a Lidl battery charger last week and it's spot on mate... Thumbs Up 2007, HSE, Cairnes Blue, Factory tints, Love it !!!

Hi Gornal

Thanks mate.
Around 3 weeks ago the AA guy changed the brake light bulb when I first reported the fault to them who had also changed the brake light switch.
This dealer as Paddi said earlier does not seem to like when I give suggestions. It's the lack of attention to details is causing this and something is being ignored by them despite having the best tools. To give an idea I have incurred so far £360 of diagnostic costs.

Battery / alternator seems to be issue as I will know what they say on Monday. If I am born again I want to be a mechanic - wishful thinking !! I have Lidl charger and did not use but gave the car to them to sort out thinking that costly repairs would be covered by warranty.

Do please check my posts for updates please and I am very determined to fix

Kind regards

Hello all

Update recieved from dealer they can't figure out !!! They are now sending info to Land Rover UK to ask for assitance

Can't believe this could get so complicated.

Car has been 5 days with them!!

Paddi, Gornal and other mates pls throw some ideas here. It seems they have done all electrical tests as well and cannot locate the issue. So frustrating and only hope is that guy who assists me in dealer as he is a genuinely helpful

I can fully understand how frustrating it must be. The truth is that faults like this can be very difficult to trace if they are related to problems with the numerous control modules and/or the wiring that connects them. Probably your best bet is to wait and see what JLR's technical department comes up with. Hopefully they will send a senior tech to deal with it.

Perhaps you could try and make contact with Land Rover customer services and get the problem expedited and as a goodwill gesture have the bill reduced if and when the dealer comes up with a solution. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi and others ,

At last !! Please see the attached image taken from the invoice. It was an issue with the brake light switch which I can't understand head or tail of it. What baffles me is how come the brake light switch can trigger so many faults. The dealer was also getting frustrated as they tried many attempts in adjusting and finally they adjusted to 6mm which was tested ok. How could this not be picked up with so many tools. The guy who works there has been very helpful and did not charge me
much.

The car is fine so far and is back with me after 7 days ! Lesson learned not to apply brake sudden and at good speed although I did when someone tried to cut me.

Paddi you are a top man and so all others who contributed and guessed the problem with brake light switch. Thanks to Martin the owner of this forum for giving a chance to interact and seek some comfort.

Kind regards
Nas

Thumbs Up good to hear the problem is solved.
I'm a bit mystified as to how the brake pedal brake light switch is adjusted since there is no facility for adjustment. Perhaps the slightly flimsy bracket it is mounted on became bent slightly by a ham fisted installation of the new switch and the dealer tech has bent it back to shape?
Can't see any way heavy braking could affect things. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi

I see what you say and agree. Problem seems to be some where relating to brake switch as I have attached this latest photo which I took as it appears randomly only at the time of starting the car and then disapppears. So frustrating mate ! Don't know what to do now as they said to bring it back but I don't want to and just drive till the fault gets exposed by itself.

It's my belief some setting relating to brake is disturbed. Any more guesses? This is doing my head in as again the suspension will start getting lowered and so on. paddi and other folks could someone see the photo please and advise possible areas.

Thanks
