HDC Fault, Transmission Fault, Special Programs Not Availab

Hi All,

Most of us may have come across this fault over the years however I cannot appear to get rid of it!!

HDC Fault, Transmission Fault, Special Programs Not Available, suspension lowered.

I changed the battery last week hoping this will disappear but unfortunately it hasn't.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have you got any fault codes? That is always a good place to start if fault not known. John

Hello friends, I drive a 2009 sport.. very grateful to all members who advised on changing brake switch light..which i did avoiding expensive repairs.

after one day the got the fault saying HDC unavailable transmission fault !!

If I take to the dealer they will definitely come up with a huge bill.

please can some one give some ideas as to how i take it from here or any areas to explore

i had instant brakes as one guy changed the lane last minute at good speed and that's the time I had the fault shown..

Any thoughts most welcome

Hi . I know you said you've changed the brake light switch but I would change again . Mine went a week after getting my s/c and as I was used to driving a manual I was maybe a bit too hard on the brakes, as I got the faults after braking quite hard. Have you had it plugged into diagnostics ?

Thanks mate for reply

Am taking to dealer on Tuesday and will take it from there

My past experiences with local mechanics has been horrible.

I think I shall wait for the report what they say and take it from there.

I just need to understand that's the difficult bit. Previously I spent £2k on transmission fault and is less then 16 months when the work was done by Land Rover dealer.

Again anything you have in mind let me know pls.

Kind regards

Nas

Hello there

Been to the Land Rover dealer

They adjusted the brake switch light again and cleared all the faults

They told me to inform them if a fault arises

Just 2 mins away from their garage the fault came back !

It started with vehicle lean when cornering then after sometime HDC transmission fault was shown again with fault codes as shown in photo

So it's a bit of a wasted cost of diagnosis today and result is same

Have booked in again

Please let me know folks of any areas to look

Kind regards

You need to upload any photos to your gallery and then paste the link in to your post.

Basics first - have you tried fully charging the battery. The Sport doesn't like low battery charge. Needs a proper overnight charge with a decent smart charger. Just running the car for a couple of hours isn't good enough.

'Vehicle lean' though sounds like a problem with the active roll control. Have you checked the reservoir under the bonnet to see if the fluid level is low? Any fluid drips from front or rear? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I am going to check battery and see the fluid

Any suggestions how I can charge battery for this sport and which smart charger I should buy?

Sorry mate am quite poor in terms of technical knowledge

Thanks

Now it is not often you'll see the words 'Range Rover' and 'Lidl' used in the same post but it seems the aforementioned discount supermarket is currently selling a smart charger for £13.99 and it is a good one according to a helpful previous post. If you can't make it to Lidl before they sell out then go for the CTEK brand and you need a 5 amp one (mx5.0 model) but they are a bit stronger money at about £50.

An older type of unregulated charger will do the job but has to be used with a bit more care. The smart chargers are just 'clip on and forget' until the green light comes on.

The reservoir you are looking for is under the bonnet near the front of the engine bay and towards the offside. If it needs topping up then make sure you only use the correct fluid that you can buy at the Land Rover dealership.

For servicing it is always best to use an independent Land Rover specialist that's recommended by another owner. Put up a post saying which part of London you are in and someone will probably recommend a place.

Might be worth looking at the steering wheel angle sensor as I had same messages on mine including the lean when cornering.

Hi Paddi

No words mate for your role.

I will buy the charger tomorrow and treat this as learning curve for me. hate to see those lights in dashboard.
Will check the fluid level and I should be able to find with your input.

Am based in Sutton Surrey but will have to find out some good specialist who can diagnose the fault correctly. I believe there is something somewhere which is triggering faults. Also I had taken my car to a garage to sort tracking and perhaps they unsettled some sensor. The steering is not striaght as it should.

I shall keep you posted of developments.

Once again thanks for your input

Hi

I got the charger from Lidl ! Lucky to find one. The faults disappear and come back again and I noticed each time I use brake it appears. It is definitely something minor which the dealer could not pick up up. Do you think after charging battery overnight and checking fluid active I also get the brake lught switch replaced again.

Just to add I also have a warranty covering for 1 more year.

Am looking around for good mechanic in my area Sutton Surrey and if any member is aware please let me know

many thanks

Hello Paddi

Hope all good

It's now very clear to me that problem appears to be brake switch light.

Although it's been replaced recently but as one of the borders suggests I may need to do again. I noticed the fault appears only immediately when I use brakes and this random and not all the time.
It's best I get the dealer to do it this time. Will keep you posted

Kind regards

I'm worried you may be jumping to conclusions in blaming the brake pedal switch considering you already changed it.
Did you fully charge the battery yet?
Did you check the fluid level in the ARC system; was it low?
Any fluid leaks front or rear?
Any fault codes recorded?

Lastly - as you have a warranty why not just leave it to a good independent to sort out and claim on the policy? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks Paddi

I will be honest with you when I bought the Lidl charger my neighbour warned that the battery need to be disconnected as this would upset the setting. Therefore I did not charge but will buy from halford ctek version 5 today and will charge it without disconnecting the battery.

I could not locate the active roll oil under bonnet and if there is a picture you could send will assist me please. There are no leaks below

The faults come and do and engine wise it's smooth and nothing seems wrong.

I will need to have a word with the warranty guys as they don't do for wear and tear as they had previously advised to dealer.

Sorry mate I am just very poor when it comes to technicals
