Chamfering disc pads is nothing new.

On my first (classic) XF, the dealer did that in 2010 to relieve brake "snatch" as it came to a halt. it isn't a safety issue, done within limits, as there is such a margin of safety built into braking systems anyway.

If you examine EBC "Red Stuff" pads or similar, I think you'll find they are chamfered on the leading edges from new. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Hmmmm......I'm not liking what I read here.

From day one my brakes have squealed at all speeds, regardless of whether I am braking or not.

My car (2,400 miles) has now been in twice to have the problem resolved, and the brakes are still squealing...........

Jim

My brake squeal is indeed back. Sad but true.

I'm waiting to see what they come up with next!

Not having any issues ref brake squeal with my April 15 AB Diesel with 11k ...or before with a 13 plate AB. Has something changed ref pads since then? However, I'm quite gentle on the brakes preferring to use the paddle shifts instead to reduce speed...to save wear and brake dust! I'm a bit ocd ref brake dust Shocked

For what it's worth, my recently purchased 2015 HSE (10,000 miles) also squeak under very light braking.

It seems to occur around town when the brakes are more regularly used and at low speed.

Slightly firmer pressure on the pedal seems to stop the squealing, but why should i brake harder when gentle pressure is enough.

I am going to monitor the impact of rain, dirt and temperature over the next few weeks.

My car is booked in on Thursday for the third attempt to cure the squeal, which is present at all times when the car is being driven.

A pretty poor show all around by Land Rover, who still expect premium money for their cars.

Perhaps their solution will involve removing more and more pad until it stops or perhaps removing them completely!Rolling Eyes

I'm no RRS expert but the current model has been in production since 2013....if the fault that people are currently experiencing is a characteristic of the model dealerships would be very familiar with the symptoms and how to resolve it..in my case they have changed multiple sets of pads, disks and a wheel bearing. Something somewhere within the construction process has been changed or is out of tolerance.

I'm sorry but modifying factory produced pads is not something that should be necessary on modern high end cars....it IS a bodge. As for people doing it to their classic cars, fine, people used to put saw dust in their gearboxes if they were noisy, I can remember putting an egg in the rad of MK1 escort to try to stop a leak....I wouldn't deem these fixes satisfactory now either.

I'm just sat here wondering what my next move should be if the brake problem remains unresolved after the third visit?

I simply can not believe that Land Rover Customer Relations are saying that this is a feature of the vehicle. No one on this forum would have dreamed of buying a L494 RRS if it had been clearly pointed out to them that the rear brakes will emit a high pitched squeal, at all times, whilst the vehicle is in motion.........?

Mine has this but only at very low breaking speeds and seems to be the left rear only.

AUDI SQ5 Jim perhaps ? Just a thought

Tell the dealership to use some copper paste between the pads and the springs and use brake grease on the cilinders (rubbers),
Mine never had this problem, but I service the brakes myself.
Most dealerships usually just swap the parts and do not give much detailed attention
These cars are heavy and for that reason heavy on the brakes too.
succes!

GJW1 don't even go there. I'm already questioning whether I should have bought the RRS as it is.........

Well I had a quick chat with my friendly LR salesman who confirmed that LR have apparently issued a bulletin regarding this squealing brakes issue. Apparently the discs should be replaced.

I am taking this with a pinch of salt, at it is coming from the sales team so maybe BS. Laughing

Anyone else heard about this one?
