Just an update - I've now tried 2 Thinkware units and having issues connecting to GPS Sad

Problem appears to be solar reflective glass. Apparently dotted area on windscreen is supposed to let signal through but I can't get lock on satellite. Locks within 45 seconds out of vehicle and will work in vehicle then until parked but on return from parking no signal again Big Cry

Supplier has offered refund so I may try the blackvue 650 but concerned none will work now Confused

Seller has a RRS and it works fine and blackvue always worked on my RRSs so not sure what to do. Lots of people on net with GPS problems due to solar reflective glass Thud

Took me ages to fit Evil or Very Mad

So glad I missed out on the bargain that BC snapped up and happy I couldn't convince you to sell yours to me at a discount while you waited for your DS forever Shocked It had lost most of its attraction when I found lane departure warning won't work well unless fitted dead centre of screen (which would have to be too low).

Great that you got your money back Thumbs Up Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

It looks awful in middle of screen due to bulky mirror unit but wouldn't work there anyway. Has to be on dotted area behind mirror. Lane departure worked but switched off due to annoying bongs every 5 minutes Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Had a 2-CH F750 installed today. RAC fitter did a great job. Very tidy, with the loop of wire to the rear window being less obtrusive than expected.

Only one problem so far... can't pick up the frickin GPS signal!

Big Cry

Followed the guidance in the handbook to ensure unit was placed in the right place to avoid chaff from the solar attenuating film on the screen... but no joy.

Probably the same issue raised by Muddywheels, despite Thinkware advising that there shouldn't be a problem.

Would be most grateful to receive any (helpful Razz ) advice from any others that may have had more success with connecting the GPS Bow down

I have mine under mirror centre of screen and it's working fine now

As a test unplug it and hold it outside vehicle then plug in power and see if it connects. You'll have to pull power cable out of headlining button will go back afterwards. If it works unit is not faulty

Placing in dotted area shown in handbook didn't help

It should work in centre of screen like mine Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The Roadsign Recognition and the Lane Departure systems use the same tiny camera built into the front of the rear view mirror, pity that the feed from that cannot be utilised for for an monitoring camera too............ Maybe the next security upgrade from LR in the 2017MY? FYI Roadsign recognition also seems to use a data base in the navigation system as I used to get speed limit signs come up on the dash entering/ leaving the village I live in that had been moved about 20m as part of a graduated reduction from national speed limit to signposted 40mpg and then 100m on a 30mph sign + red rumble strips right across the carriageway. It is now the same at all the villages around this area and now we have camera enforced 20mpg limits 100m each side of the school entrances too.... Hasn't reduced the number of RTA's as we never had any in the first place and I couldn't tell you how long it is since a school kid got run over at the school, but the roads department has to use up its safety budget I suppose, pity that they didn't use it resurfacing the unsafe road surface full of potholes................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

There has been discussion on discosportforum about this and apparently the cameras LR fit are low res and wouldn't be good enough for evidence

The conclusion was that LR need to offer built in dashcam system even as an option it would be of interest to buyers

The surround camera system in particular with recording would be fantastic Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Many thanks for the pointers Muddy.
Looks like the unit is duff - will request an exchange.
Hopefully better luck next time around.

The Blackvue unit I had was slow to grab a GPS signal. I tried two different units, both had issues.

Went over to the MiWitness which gives no issues and get a GPS fix inside about 30 seconds maximum, depending on how long since the car was use.

The heated screen 'wires' and sun-dim provides an effective Faraday cage.

The Thinkware now gets signal by time I reach main road from home so I can live with that as it's only couple of mins

Blackvue on RRS1 was more or less immediate Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Thinkware couldn't pick-up due to the Faraday cage created by the heated windscreen. Invested £30 on a GPS repeater, & 3M'd to the exterior, under the rear spoiler. Powered from socket in rear load-space, with antenna running under rear seats. Now picks up signals in seconds. Very Happy
