The masking around the bends was the hardest part really, I enjoyed doing it all, I've 2000 paper to buff down on the edges, but I've gave it a week now to cure right in, its so simple to remove it I'll buff the edges next.

The only thing I think I could have done more on is give it more thicker coats of clear, I think I was too afraid to balls it up and went too many light coats (x3) but it really works in place. Better than the all chrome it was when I bought the grill.

I'd love to do the bumper guards, but will leave that to a real spray painter to do, it looks tricky.

Very Nice, I bought some of the same lettering a while back but never got around to fitting them as were undecided how they would look.

However seeing how they look on yours it's now made up my mind, guess it's another job to add to the list.

cheers
Col

Thanks guys, I was a bit of two minds about the chrome lips, but I ordered both the black and the dual tone ones, I went with them. Lukes spray tips were really cool to look to when I started this.

looking very good !!! great job.

i made a little mistake on my front grille so i'm having to re-lacquer it. it's a little moist in the air (to say the least) and the lacquer didn't harden sifficiently, so when i went to polish the paint i ended up with scratches galore. so i've got a scotch pad and scratch the surface a little and sprayed 2 more coats of lacquer. gonna let it harden till the weekend!!! Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Hardest part for me was getting the tiny curves - I used any amount of tapes to get it done with a blade. I was uncertain if it would peel off right, but it all worked great, would love to find other things to spray now, I've got the bug!

yep thats the tricky bit, so the paint doesnt also peel off.

pillars
sills
rear view covers
handles
lower tailgate trim
washer jets

where else? Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

i'm looking at spraying my jet washers java black, thinking that such a small job can be done at home? from what i've been reading, the steps are:
1) sand with 600-1000 grit paper, maybe starting with 600?
2) degrease thoroughly
3) use a plastic primer x 5 thin layers
4) sand again with 100 grit paper
5) standard lacquer free aerosol x 5 layers, or should I use an aerosol followed by lacquer?
6) finish off by polishing the area

has anyone sprayed with an aerosol before and achieved a good, durable finish? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thx Thumbs Up
Hi, That No. 4 100 grit will rip the primer to bits. The lower the grit number the rougher the cut. Use a 600 between the primer coat and the colour coat. Give the primer coat a day to thoroughly dry. Did you know the side vent panels unclip the mesh from the surround itisme

whoops that was a mistake thanks for pointing that out Thumbs Up

in fact what i would do now is to sand the primer with 1000, or take a scotch pad to key it slightly if there are no imperfections in the primer.

the side vent bezels on mine didnt unclip from the mesh...they were glued/melted into place. so it was a bit of a process removing them.

my front grill is still hardening. still smells of lacquer even after a couple of days. hopefully this weather will get it to set for sunday so i can polish it. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

ok so some pics of the front grille process. left the clear coat to dry for a few days before polishing this time, weather slows the progress.

first pic of part of grille ready for the 2000 wet and dry. washed the grille thoroughly first, so no small debris present which could scratch the surface:

then a pic of the surface post-sanding. you see it's pretty dull now. this is what freaked me out when i first started color coding stuff; i thought i messed things up when i saw a dull surface when i was expecting a nice polished surface:

no worries. now time for the polish. i use the autoglym super resin polish, with a polishing cloth. i find that it needs two applications. so i apply once, rubbing in circles, then clean the residue off with a microfibre cloth. then i repeat the process again. end result is this:

then what i do is apply two layers of maguiers premium liquid wax, for extra protection. rub it in, leave it to dry, then rub off with a microfibre. as ive said before, the clear coat is the key in the process. apply it in enough layers, let is dry thoroughly, job done! Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

i'm started doing them at the weekend. Only one layer of clear coat on them thus far as i ran out of the stuff, gonna be tough to polish them though given all the lumps and bumps. i may well just clear coat them and not sand them, otherwise they may look very uneven. we'll see. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
