screen default to 'off'?

Afternoon,

This may sound like an odd request, but does anyone know if you can get the screen in the dash to default to off when you turn the car on - it is an '07 TDV8 HSE with rear entertainment if that makes any difference.

As a rule I don't need the nav to drive to work or to tescos, so I really only want the screen to come on when I want to use the features it offers. in normal ioeration I would like it to be off.

I havent managed to find a setting to get it to do it, so I wondered if it was a vehicle setting...

Cheers

Personally I don't know why you would want it off - there is a fair amount of info on it and its not intrusive...but all you can do is turn the screen off using the button on the main home screen Mike

Mike,

Maybe I am missing something then? which screen do you have it on during normal everyday driving?

I don't have an Audio Menu on my '07...

I have Nav, 4x4 Info, Rear entertainment, Settings, TV and DVD - None of which are especially useful when I know where I am going, am on my own, and driving on normal roads...

I guess I can turn the brightness right down, but I wondered if it could default to 'off' unless required.

Cheers

I don't have an answer either - but agree it would be useful! I find, even on min brightness, the screen is a bit bright driving on unlit country lanes where you need all the night visibility you can get!

Since I switch the screen off except when I'm using the sat-nav - it would be nice to default to it being off!

Si

I belong to the "I wish I could turn it off and it stays off until I turn it on group",

but I also belong to the "I wish I could turn off the annoying bong if the ignition key is in and the driver's door is open" group

plus the "why can't I put it into gear without being treated as an idiot and having to put my foot on the brake first" group

and then there's the " why do I have to agree to a set of Ts & Cs which no one reads when I want to use the satnav" group.

There are a few others but I feel a bit better now so I will stop Laughing

Seriously Mark after 5 years of an 07 TdV8 I haven't found a way of turning the screen off other than via the Settings screen.

Again MY14 on the accept screen has now gone (well its automatic at the very start) and there is no key.

The foot on the brake thing is there...but its there for other reasons rather than because we are treaded as fools. Mike

I thought all automatics required the foot on the brake o move out of park? pretty much all the ones I have driven has been the same. 2007 TDV8 RR Sport HSE

Foot on the brake to get out of Park was introduced around 2004 by LR IIRC. It was intended as a safety measure to avoid unintentional reversing (if the handbrake was not on or the engine was revved) or movement on accidental selection of a gear. It is now an integral part of stop/start systems.
