I have a knock which fits this description but two different specialists have told me that is is just the anti roll bar bushes... i say just despite hearing they both need 2 to 4 hours to fit new ones |

(repost) one mechanic that inspected my car and recommended changing front ARB bushes, also said they would remove two components that contribute to the noise and actually serve no purpose. in fact Land Rover recommend these are removed. does anyone know what he was referring to. he did tell me but it escapes me now (there were so many problems we discussed with the car, ive forgotten what this was) 07 TDV8 + BAS map |

So last year I had a TDV8 (09) and then a supercharger (59)... both knocked and rattled so I gave up and flogged them both.... Have just bought a 12 plate supercharger and it's brilliant. Totally silent, drives in a straight line. Land Rover made a few changes over the years, the most significant being the modified ARB compressor from a different supplier. It can be retro-fitted, but it's the most expensive option.

I guess it would be a Google job for LR parts suppliers.

So before I go and buy one of these - is it hit and miss that you get a crappy one? Is there something you can ask the owner for before making the deal - or is it that they just go and you are stuck with it. |

Test drive it over a broken surface. You'll know if the bushes need doing - it's a very obvious noise.

Cool - testing on the weekend with one. Looks lovely but I hear dealers do them up to look better to bling you to sale! |

Is this knocking is so bad that the car can't be used or it is just annoying clonk every time you turm steering wheel? Does the knock stops when at motorway speed? |

The items to remove are the front body to chassis dampers mounted at the back of the front wheel arches and hidden by the wheel arch liners. They do not actually contribute to the noise but they do act as one of two noise transmission paths to the cabin. (The other path is via the No. 2 body mounts) PS Only just realised that the original post is over a year old - still the info might still help someone. |
