LPG

I am considering buying a RRS supercharger which has been converted to LPG. I have read a few horror stories on converting this engine as I believe the valves are made from soft alloy. I know that JE Enginerring do a replacement head and that the other option is to use Flashlube.

So my question is if I use a flashlube system will this protect the valves and has anyone owned a LPG RRS and if so what kind of MPG were you getting and did you have any issues with the system.

Thanks Stu

Why not give JE engineering a call if they are the experts, i'm sure they will tell you all you need to know. Thumbs Up Sorry i don't know anyone who runs a LPG sport.

Try a search, there was someone on here a few years ago (around 2008 or 9) who had an LPG converted V8 (can't remember if it was an S/C) and he reckoned it was fine. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

If you look on the FF site there are a few that run it but Flashlube is a must unless you do what JE want you to do and remove the heads and put hardened valve stem seals and seats and IIRC new valves as well...

To me thats a bit drastic but can understand they know what they are doing and would rather have no issues long term, but that route is circa £5k+ all in!! at which point you think why not port and polish as well and go for bigger valves whilst at it?!? FFRR Owner, SSRR engine destroyer!(*2) & Creator of SSRR Smile

Yeah there seems to be a few on eBay for sale and I'm tempted but a few have said lpg and charger engine is a no no, not much information to why not hasn't been posted (or I've not seen it).

I had a ffrr on LPG, the 4.4 v8 and I used to get about 200 miles from 85 ltrs.

If I knew it could be ok I'd snap one up, they sound awesome!!

I have a 4.2 running on LPG - it's fitted with a PRINS LPG system including Flashlube and runs perfect.

Please bear in mind if you like main dealers to service your cars - Land Rover have expressed to me that they are not allowed to have LPG cars in their workshops.

I have one running on LPG. The car has done 33000 miles on LPG with the last owner and its running fine with me.
The only issue I have is the last owner put a massive tank in the boot cutting the load space in half. I'm just about to get an underslung tank fitted where the spare wheel goes, smaller tank but gets my boot back.

The only thing negative on mine is that you don't get the full power, you have to ease the power on slowly. If you want full power then you have to switch back to petrol which takes about a second and then you have it all Thumbs Up 2006 Supercharged

What LPG system have you got fitted PaulH? I don't have any issues with performance - I can't even tell the difference when it's running on petrol or LPG!

I must admit I haven't a clue what type is fitted. The ECU looks like the one that was fitted to my FFRR but it has a different fuel switch. This one has a wee green/red light top right corner and a row of lights on the left side but I couldn't see the label. it was fitted nicely but they didn't fit it allowing the engine cover to be refitted which is a shame.

I was told that to get full power (ish) then I should double the amount of jets or get bigger ones OR there is a system that adds petrol to the LPG when you floor it.

I was also told that there can be a lot of electrical issues, i.e. timing or mixture issues but if I don't have any issues then leave it alone.

Certainly seems to run okay for general driving and is really good for any distance driving. Unfortunately I just love driving with the full power generally. 2006 Supercharged

best way to find out what LPG system you have is to look at the injectors - the brand is normally printed on the side of them.

Where does the mounting point get cut into on the RRS?
Is it possible to have it next to the fuel filler neck or does it mean a cut out in the bumper with a plastic cover being exposed?

and at that point you really have to think i'm saving sweet fa unless your going to drive it to the moon and back as a daily comute you might as well just use petrol as you will never re-coupe any of the outlay[/quote]

My Filler is just below the bumber at the back at the moment but it seems a bit precarious fitted there so I'm moving it to the right hand side of the bumper. 2006 Supercharged
