Detachable tow bar

Does anybody know if it is possible to repair / replace the locking key barrel that fixes the detachable tow bar?

The key has snapped off inside Evil or Very Mad Embarassed RRS TDV6 HSE Giverney/Ivory.

its not a dealer fix, dead simple to swop the green handle with lock, i may even have one in the garage!

Can you really not get the key out? Mike

How far inside the barrel - can you see it?

Is it in the locked or unlock position, can you put something in to turn it? Mike

I think you need to have it unlocked before you can knock the pin out and take off the lock, which you will then need to get from a dealer (£10).

You might surprise yourself if you can turn the lock Mike

Hello
I've replaced mine as I didn't have a key when I bought the rrs.
Firstly as mse says, approx 10quid for the green handle with integrated lock and two keys.

Very easy to Fit new handle. You will Probably find the the towbar is siezed, so pleanty of wd40 and a plastic mallet will help to remove.

Wee bump on this.

Smapped a key in my lock (2010) but managed to get the towbar off. Still able to rotate from lock to unlock position but cannot get the remains of the key out.

How do I change the green lock - is it something to do with the Allen key on the opposite side of the towbar?

Prefer to do it myself if I can, or else I can drop the towbar into the local dealers amd let the, work away at it. MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

Key jammed in locked position - help

Hi guys, this is my first ever trek onto a forum so please bear with.... I have a 2011 RRS and have just had the 7 pin wiring done for the tow bar and got a second hand detachable tow bar from t'ebay. the one provided red round key wouldn't turn so ordered two replacement keys from replacementkeys.co.uk and the tow bar locked a treat. Now I cannot get it to unlock so I can remove and put in the boot before some scoundrel with the know how helps themselves to it. I suspect the lock itself is not great and have ordered replacement lock from Hatfields LR but need to get it off first and t'ebay seller has offered refund but either way I need to get it off the car again Big Cry . Anybody advise? Am happy to have private message or phone call - just need help. Thanks in advance,

I know this will sound obvious, but are you doing it right Question . To remove the tow bar you will need to have the lock 'unlocked, then pull out the green handle, then turn it towards you I believe. Thumbs Up

It's just that these rarely go wrong and just need some WD40 to free them unless the key has snapped off in there. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
