Madmackie - here's the info on how to put it all together. You'll need to read up on a couple of the other posts Martin has linked to but making the lead is really quite straight forward.

Well just had a trip back to the garage the owner appologised he was looking in the wrong section on the diagnostic tool he was looking in heating and ventolation when the FBH is in the drive section it was locked out due to low fuel my fault as i was out with no wallet to get fuel.He reset it and hey presto it works again so all is good for now i have decided when the tank gets to 1/4 full its effectivly empty put fuel in so i shouldnt get locked out again.. Razz Razz Thumbs Up Still interested in this lead though cheers pete Thumbs Up

Does starting three times with the low fuel light on lock it out?

If it does really bad design.

Still I wouldn't be surprised, it is a land rover 2009 3.6 TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

As Madmackie says three failed starts cause a lock out. But one successful start erases one failed from the memory until it is back to zero again. e.g you have two failed starts logged and then get a successful one the memory will go back to one failed

Reasons for failed starts include low fuel or low battery voltage along with various sensor or component faults

I suspect my issue is a low fuel lock out too

Agreed really bad design that is not highlighted in owners manual! TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

Good news my good peoples....there is life

I did the quick way of connecting to the FBH for now by connecting straight to the battery.

Over the coming days I'll wire it up so it goes straight to my diagnostics port inside the car to save me having to wire it all up to the battery every time.

Anyway, here's a brief guide on how I got it going.

First - order wires from Martin. The red wire is for the FBH connector. The orange wire will go into my diagnostic port at a later date.

http://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/index.php?act...oductId=41

http://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/index.php?act...oductId=46

Also - order an ODB2 to USB cable like the one linked below. You don't have to install the VAG COM software as that is for VWs - you just need the cable.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-GROUP-USB-OB...4d026febe4

This is the connector we need to plug our diagnostics port into. The port I've arrowed in the pic is the one we need to stick the red cable into (port 2).

Flip it over so that you can read the port numbers.

Use a paperclip to slide the pink release mechanism to the right.

Insert the paperclip into port 2 and push the rubber bung out.

Take the red cable and insert it into the hole. The spikey bit should face towards the outer face of the connector. You will hear it click when it goes all the way in.

Slide the pink mechanism back to the left to lock the cables in place.

You will be left with this

Now grab your OBD cable and connect 3 cables to it as shown. The red cable on the top right (port 16) goes to the + terminal of the battery. The Black cable in the middle with the red spade connector (port 5) goes to the - battery terminal. The thin black cable with the blue (speaker terminal) connector (port 7) goes to the red wire we installed in the FBH connector.

Pic showing the red cable I inserted into the FBH connector joining to the cable going to my OBD interface.

I downloaded version 2.12 but the latest one should work for you

http://www.techwebasto.com/heater_thermo_test.htm

Once I got the software up and running I managed to get a response from the controller. Primed the fuel, cleared the fault codes and fired her up...

I smoked out the neighbourhood.

I'm sure I'm not supposed to be getting smoke coming out in the engine bay??

I'm hoping it will fire up the next time I start the car! Thumbs Up Want to do a DIY job on your car? Check out the definitive 'how to' thread in the technical section Thumbs Up
