Hi all,

Enjoying my new car that I got hold of on Sunday. Something odd I find is that when in reverse and parking, why does the car warn if the front sensors detect an object? e.g. a person walking past?
When reversing into a space why would I want to know if someone is walking in front of the car...every other car I have had only beeps in the direction of travel, i.e. front sensors if you are crawling forward, or rear sensors if you are reversing. Is this a fault, or are they all this abnormal?

In case the front swings close to an object
All cars I've had bleeps on have warned front/rear obstructions regardless of the direction you are travelling.
My RRS has different audible tones so you can easily recognise if the problem is front or back  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I guess something I will get used to - and may well prove useful on a car this size! The merc I had definitely didn't do this!
O/T - but does anyone use the dipped wing mirror option on reverse? Sometimes as they dip so low I feel I may be missing something in my path - again need to get used to this. Certainly useful to save from kerbing marks!
I did try to experiment, in that if my mirrors in normal driving were HIGHER then on dip, they wouldn't lower as much and give me a more balanced view of the kerbs and of obstructions higher up, from my experiment, I think the ydip to same height no matter what the original setting is...

BTW : Absolutely LOVING the car! Awesome driving position, will be difficult to ever go back to a 'normal' car I think!

Not sure which model year you have but on mine MY12 you can program the mirrors so that when you select Reverse then they will move to position which has been programmed by you (page 47 in my owners handbook)

I think you will find it useful tbh

Re the reversing dip.
With reverse engaged and the mirrors dipped, adjust them to the position you would prefer.
They should remmeber that setting for next time

also,you will notice the front senors are a higher pitch than the rear ones.! ii have programmed my mirrors to dip as i found it more easier to park.!

Thanks all...will give a go at adjusting the level of the dip. It definitely is useful, but always fear at looking at the ground, I am missing something big - but I suppose that's what the sensors are for.

I have noticed the pitch difference too - and the front sensors, it sounds like the sound is from the front, so will not be too difficult to get used to.

Went for another drive. Mirror situation sorted. Thanks for that. Correct advice above in that when in reverse if adjusted will stay at these settings in reverse.

Still find sensors odd. For example when at lights if someone gets close behind te sensors at the back sound even though I am in drive. I'm sure will get used to it! Increases awareness I suppose.

senors come on automatically when you put it in reverse and stay on for 30 secs i think, then they switch off,but you can manually switch them off straight away by pressing the button on dash.! you can manually switch them on too by pressing same button.!

Sensors are fine, just get used to them. Once you go over 10 mph they switch off. I pull out of my office car park and hit a set of lights before doing more than 10 and everything sets them off.
The mirrors work well and will save your wheels but dip is p in a when reversing with trailer on the back so if you tow, get used to turning this function off when you hitch up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
