3.6 or 3.0 help me decide

Hi all, i am considering switching from my disco 3 to a RRS my question is which engine should i go for?
the 3.0l tdv6 or the 3.6 tdv8? is there much difference between them, performance and mpg

Hi Bear the TDV8 boys will be along in a minute to tell you go for the 3.6.

I moved from D3 to RRS 3.0 TDV6 and I've got to say I'm more than happy with the performance .

certainly the MY2010 interior is stunning a real step up from D3 and I'll be honest much better designed than the new D4 dash. 2011 MY- RRS HSE - Zermatt -Ebony-Piano .... its a monochrome world

i have always wanted the FFRR but they loose far to much money over time, so i have now looked into the range rover sport, i love my disco 3 hse it really is awesome, but now its time for her to go Big Cry
the MPG is a big thing for me at present i get 22-24 out of my disco so i must improve on that, but i do have quite a heavy right foot Very Happy Very Happy so performance is also quite important.
is the road tax the same amount for both?

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

My tdv8 returns 26mpg consistently no matter whether it's urban/or motorway driving. Huge torque, overtaking is just remarkable. Splendid woofly V8 sound, plant your foot and you're away, like the clappers! Insurance via Swift is for me £450 fully comp. I reset the trip computer today, as it had been showing 26mpg for months, and driving from home down the M53 to Liverpool , throught to Aintree, and then back again, it soon averaged 26mpg again. Having said that, your D3 is averaging 22-24, whereas when I has an auto D3 I usually got 26/27mpg! But the 3.0 litre RRS will be a tad more economical, by 2-3mpg.
I'm not sure...but do the latest 12 model RRSs come with 8 speed auto like the 12 model D4s?

I have a TDV8 after having a D3 a few years ago. The 3.6 is a great engine and what it loses in mpg it gains in the smile factor - delivering both grunt and that V8 rumble.
Mpg is ok but not ground breaking, I suppose we are getting around 19 just pottering around. But then again, I wanted one, haven't regretted it and I'm so pleased I have got it.

As previously posted, the 2010 model interior is absolutely stunning. Thumbs Up

You're consistently getting 26mpg? Then you may as well have got the 2.7 cos you ain't using the 3.6 fully! Wink 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

TDV8=8.83
TDV6=8.64
80-100km/h in 6th,d
TDV8=6.37
TDV6=6.66, Plus the v8 is faster by about 8km/h.
Very little in it, plus i would say the new TDV6 ,mdl 11,12 is smoother. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

I had an early (Sept 09 TDV8 MY10) that due to persistent faults was replaced by LR - but only after 4 months plus of arguing with them resulting in the car being replaced with a TDV6 - due to the TDV8 going out of production during the negotiation.

In my opinion, the TDV8 is so superior in so many ways and so much better to drive and I regret the decision to accept the TDV6 as a replacement. The fuel efficiency of the TDV6 is identical if not a bit worse than the V8 (per my experience) and whilst the numbers are on paper the same try putting your foot down on a motorway to overtake (50-70ish mph plus a bit!) and there is a WORLD of difference - the TDV8 will effortlessly swoop you out into the next lane whilst the TDV6 hunts for the right gear and puffs it way to try and overtake - on a single track road where you can easily overtake with the V8 it is impossible with the V6. i haven't found the stats but I suspect that the V8 has a very flat torque curve across the rev range whilst the TDV6 is 'tuned' to create a comparable torque on paper but only at a very specific rpm - which is useless. LR stopped publishing torque range (i.e. torque vs rpm) info for the TDV6 so you cannot compare on paper but the difference driving them is HUGE.

The only downside of the V8 vs the V6 is the turbo lag from stationary - much more with the V8 - but racing off the lights is not very important for me as it makes the passengers sick!

it's nothing to do with figures, nothing AT ALL (although as an aside my TDV8 will do 30mpg+ on the motorway with cruise on)

you have to drive it to understand

I stand by what I say... TDV6 is an excellent car to own and buy.. just never drive a TDV8 because you will need counselling after for the trauma of your mistake!! Thumbs Up ============
