Never going to happen, already one complete to**er on news this morning saying they are dead against it and want to lobby it.

It still won't stop all these idiots that seem to drive at 40 on carriageways etc.....is it just me or does there seem to be more and more of them every day?

Think of the children........

Our motorway limit is 120km/h (76mph), in Holland the new motorways that are going in have upped the limit to 130km/h (82mph) Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Instead of discussing it, why not just bloody do it, i mean lets face it, most people do 80mph on the motorway already in the right conditions.

+1

Lets face it, It's already defacto 80mph already on both Motorway & Dual Carraigeway because the Police won't
stop you for doing 80 on either and speed cams are never set below 80 in a 70 limit either. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

My suggestion would be, do a 80mph trial on a few four lane motorways for lets say six months but don't allow hgv's to used the third lane because the closing speed of a 80mph car to a 56 mpg hgv may be too much for inexperienced drivers and just see how it goes, then make an assessment. Thumbs Up But introduce motorway driving as part of the driving test, but again only being allowed to use the two nearside lanes. Well thats my contribution to the government debate Wink

My sports MPG is better on runs at 70 (cough)

Slower i go on longer runs the MPG drops - same on the disco - 50mph same journey = -1-2 mpg

I agree, just do it.

Its tragic when people die - but thats the case all the time, driving is safer, cars are safer people always winge (and they will be the loudest)....lets face it, anything can kill you! Mike

Easiest way to ease congestion would be to ban Lorries from overtaking, that gets right on my nerves that

Funny how the absolutely minority always seem to come to the forefront on these issues, there was some old duffer on CombineHarvester FM this morning saying it will increase accidents and increase Co2 emissions.........on the latter, so F Censored g what, its meaningless anyway as for the former, what utter rubbish, most people are doing 80-90 anyway these days, this is just making it legal, removing the current technicality of inaccuracy on the speedo Whistle Whistle

I hate these good-doers, partly the reason this country is in the Censored it is.........the sorts that pushed for an open door immigration policy through one of the idiotic "think-tanks" from that last abomination in government.

Quote:
"Mr Hammond said England and Wales' roads "should be the arteries of a healthy economy".

He added: "Now it is time to put Britain back in the fast lane of global economies and look again at the motorway speed limit which is nearly 50 years old, and out of date thanks to huge advances in safety and motoring technology.

"Increasing the motorway speed limit to 80mph would generate economic benefits of hundreds of millions of pounds through shorter journey times."

Maybe they should get rid of all the stupid 40 and 50's they have brought in on country roads if they want to cut journey times Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
